I'm cautiously optimistic about this.  Living in Saratoga Springs, it's been real easy to jump in the Suburban and make a 10 minute drive to shoot.  It's been a couple of years since they closed down most of the west side of the lake to shooting.  Between the BLM making some of the land off limits and then the county coming in a fencing off access to another large section it's pushed everyone to the west side of the power lines into a relatively small area.

Now this new range might provide a place to shoot, but the BLM is also going to close off another 3400 acres.  Yeah, they say they want to discuss it, but I'd bet they've already made the decision.  And this isn't about the small percentage of shooters that leave their trash out there.

Worried about this myself. We get 160 acres and they take 3,400. I'm going to the public comment period tonight to see what's up.

If only we had a Governor with the fortitude to reclaim our land.

Any word on what they are going to charge us to use our land?

"The BLM is transferring ownership of 160 acres of public land in the Lake Mountains south of Salt Lake City to Utah County, which will build the shooting range that is expected to be available free of charge."
