Hey everyone,

Im from Northern Nevada and looking to take a brief trip to Cedar City to scope it out for a potential move.  Anyone have any recommendations of things to do around the area?  Neighborhoods I should check out, or employment opportunities?  I know it's a pretty small town, but I'm just trying to get some feelers out there.

My resumè isn't super impressive, but I've got 5 years in the airborne infantry, and I'm currently a department manager at a machine gun manufacturer building beltfeds for the military and approved allies.  It'll be a hard job to leave, but thems the breaks.

Ideally, I'd like at least a couple acres, with some nearby desert scenery and such.  I know the weather probably won't be spectacular, but any hiking or outdoors sights I could check out would be cool too.

I'm not dead set on Cedar City itself, but it sure looks pretty, and the cost of living is pretty attractive.

im single and 30yo, so no tie downs.  Anything I should check out?  I'm hoping to start driving Wednesday evening after work (March 4h), probably show up Thursday morning or mid-day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks guys.

PS: as far as I know I'm solid on bringing an AR and a Glock, yes?  Thanks again!

As I said in the other thread - there's not much to do there.

Horseback riding, if you like horses. Good areas to go shooting.

That's about it Spent 4 months there and was bored out of my mind other than the above listed activities.

I guess there isn't a lot during the winter.
Except skiing at Brian Head resort or snow boarding.
Snowmobiling over hundreds of miles of trails.
Winter camping.
Ice fishing in Panguitch Lake.
Then there is Bryce Canyon event and Zion music festivals.
Spring and summer. Cedar City is called the Festival City for a reason. Just about every weekend is an event of somekind.
Groove Fest is a free music festival that has bands from all over the country for three days.
Then there is the Tony award winning Sheakepeare Festival all summer.
Camping in the mountains. All the national forest and BLM land. ATV trails from Richfield to Duck Creek.
Bicycle trails all over the place.
Three peaks County range. Has events like the SASS and .22 competition monthly.
I run 1:5th scale gas trucks at the local hobby port. Lots of flying events out there.
I also have competition .22s and now my AR.
Not a lot of work up here but housing is cheap. Taxes are fairly low.
Just my thoughts

Its a pretty small town, but there are fun outdoor things to do- duck hunting at the reservoirs, shooting spots, hiking trails, etc. Its only about 4 hours from Vegas.

The bar scene sucks (lol Mormons) and good luck picking up any sloots.

You are definitely good to go bringing an AR and a Glock, your Nevada CCW permit should be good to go here, but not vice versa.

If you have experience in the gun industry, there are probably better/cooler employment opportunities up here along the Wasatch front (SLC area). LAR/Grizzly, Silencerco, Vector Arms, just to name a few, and not even including all the gun stores and defense department contractors.
Plus there is a lot more stuff to do up here, we have pretty much everything cedar City has outdoors wise PLUS civilization.

I've been living in Cedar for over a year and a half, and counting down the days till I an leave. This place sucks.
Employment outlook is horrible unless you're connected with a morman family or have a CDL
Two bars I wouldn't even consider bars
mormans
Fast food everywhere
Terrible drivers
USPS fucking sucks here
People here suck
Utah highway patrol will pull you over for anything

Although...
Awesome outdoor public range and plenty of other places to shoot
Brianhead resort is a 30 min drive
It's failry inexpensive to live here, I don't pay for water and gas is dirt cheap
Plenty of elk roughly an hour north
SUU is a carry campus and a good university overall
It is literally the safest place I've ever lived
I like the weather, four seasons, cold and snowy in the winter, dry and hot in the summer
Lots of great near by mountain biking
NOT FOUR hours from Vegas, it's almost exactly 1:40 doing 80 on I15

Wages are kind of low in Southern Utah for the average Joe.  $15.00 an hour is considered pretty good.  Check out St. George.  The Mormon issue isn't really that bad, but there are some quirks when you live in Utah.  Booze, porn, a little good ole boy stuff still going on, and a few other things like rolling up the sidewalks on Sunday are going to be a big difference from Nevada.  You'll have to start paying state income tax too.
