The family and I will be in the Salt Lake City area for a weekend later this month. I am trying to figure out where to get a hotel and want to know if there are any places/areas of town to avoid.

Also, any cool hikes or anything nearby, we may have some extra time to enjoy the outdoors on one of the days. Thanks!

Our family always stays at Little America. Nice hotel close to the interstate. It's also on the TRAX line which will take you to many things downtown.

How long/strenuous of a hike are you looking at?

City Creek Canyon is just northeast of downtown Salt Lake. Ensign Peak is directly north. Both are reasonably short and enjoyable hikes with kids.

If you want a more involved hike, Mt. Olympus is one of the most popular hikes in the valley. It's much more strenuous. 3.8 miles each way, 4200 feet of vertical elevation, with a bit of scrambling at the top. Take 3 liters of water to be sure.

Little America is a great place to stay with the family.

One of my favorite hikes to show off the alpine views we have here is Cecret Lake located near Alta and Snowbird ski resorts up Little Cottonwood Canyon. There are lot's of moose in the area.

Thanks for that website. I think I'll go see a B-25.

We wanted to on an overnight trip up Timp a few years ago, but it was a really hot day and we were happy to just set up camp instead of pretending we were mountain goats.

Interesting. We just camped at Timpanooke night before last, lol. Of course a 2 and 5 year old probably would not be the best hiking companions to try and reach the crash site, but I will have to put it on the list of places to go.

Thanks.
