I'm looking to leave the desiccated hell hole that is California, and move to America.

How long does it take to establish residency so I may enjoy freedom? How long does it take before I can purchase firearms? What about CCW? Also suppressors and SBRs are legal in OR if I'm not mistaken, I'd like to be well situated when the HPA passes.

My job allows me to live pretty much anywhere in the US, so I'm looking to get out of CA ASAP.

Figure I can do my part to tip the scales in this state in the right direction

You are looking to move to America?

And you choose Oregon?

Relative to CA it most certainly is; It's not like I'm planning to move to Portland. Looking to move to Jefferson more specifically, I have friends out there.

I honestly think Oregon may be more liberal than CA. We just haven't banned that stuff yet.
ETA: I moved here about 15 years ago. I didn't have internet back then to go on forums to know much about Oregon. At first it seems awesome. WHOOPY! I can buy all these cool guns and don't have to get my car smogged! I'm about ready to start looking for somewhere else to move now. They are writing gun bills weekly. Oregon will never get better gun laws, only more gun control. There are other states that are passing laws like constitutional carry or laws that supposedly make federal gun laws null and void in their state, but Oregon legislature clearly wants more gun laws. A few years ago there was a national concealed carry bil, it fails in the Senate by just 2 votes... both of our senators voted no on it. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Oregon bans suppressors altogether if HPA passes. I'm surprised we can even still get CHLs here. I live in a pretty red neck county, but there are still flaming liberals here.

I've learned you really can't know what a place is like until you've lived there for a while.

btw, are you talking about Jefferson county or Jefferson city?

ETA: Here are some threads to read to see what I'm talking about.

Born and raised in Central California.
Moved to Oregon in 1992.
I shake my head when I see what both states have become.
Will most likely head for Idaho within the next five years.

The problem is, it really does not matter where in OR you live, the liberal power base is all west of the Cascades and they dictate what goes on in the whole state, so you might end up in a pretty conservative county, but you will still be weighed down by what they do in Portland, Salem, Eugene.

The I-5 corridor controls what goes on everywhere.

That's basically the same way California was. I'm from California also. Go drive through central California, oildale, Bakersfield, etc. About as red neck as you can get. Ruled by intercity LA and San Francisco.

I see these threads pop up all the time and am amazed at the number of people in this state who say, "don't come here.  It's screwed up!  Go find somewhere else, we gun owners are outnumbered here and it's going to get bad.  Take your gun-owning self somewhere else.  It's in your best interest."

Fuck that.

You own guns and don't like liberalism?  Get your ass up here.  Hell, we should be offering to drive down with a fleet of pickups and trailers to help him move, for fuck's sake.

Yes, Portland and Eugene are liberal cesspools.  Salem, however, is not as bad.  More often than not Marion County goes red in the votes rather than blue.  The fact that every other county in the state (most notably Multnomah, Washington, Lane, and Benton) export their biggest morons down to the capitol for months at a time every year is what gives Salem that, well, odor.

The more, the better.

Born and raised in the Central Coast.  Moved to Idaho and then Montana.  I moved to Oregon in 2014 after my company got sold to an outfit in Chicago.  I work in a niche field so Seattle or Portland were the best options when my wife and I decided we needed to move.  I shake my head at some of the stuff that goes on here but also know it could be way worse.  If you end up in the metro, let me know.  I will buy you a beer.

We need more conservatives in Oregon -- so I'd like to see you move here. However, if I were to choose a state, it wouldn't be Oregon because it's ruled by the left and it’s not just the left but the socialist left! There's a reason why they call Eugene, the "People’s Republic of Eugene" and the local newspaper (the Register Guard) the "Red Guard"! As another said, the Willamette valley, consisting of Portland, Salem and Eugene rules the rest of the state because those three areas have well over 50% of the population of the state. The Portland area alone (a three county area) has almost 50 % of the state population! However, I really like many of the conservative areas east of the Cascades but they’re still ruled by the Willamette Valley. I really feel and would strongly support splitting the state in to the Willamette Valley for the left and the rest of the state for the right! Unfortunately the people in the conservative areas have absolutely no say in what happens if it comes to a state vote!

The states of Washington and Nevada have the same issues as Oregon!

Idaho, Utah and Wyoming and to a lesser degree Montana are better places to live when considering conservative area's! I personally love the state of Montana but you've got too many liberals moving and living there especially around Missoula and Bozeman! However -- I've seen open carry in retail stores Missoula and nobody raised an eyebrow!
