My buddy and I are interested in shooting USPSA. I've been googling like crazy, and found a couple of the clubs in the area participate. Do we need to be members of the clubs? Do we need any sort of "action course" certification? We are both proficient with firearms, but don't belong to an organized range.

Any tips for getting started? We both shoot DA/SA (him a HK P30L and me a Sig Pro 2022). Can we be in production if our guns have aftermarket night sights? Again, any help would be appreciated.

Local clubs are open to the public to participate in the USPSA matches.

It is highly advised you attend an intro course. Safety is taken seriously and you need to understand the safety rules and range commands. Albany Rifle and Pistol Club has an excellent course that includes safety rules, range commands, and live fire. Most of your questions will be answered there. It is held the first Saturday of each month, it's free and you must preregister for the course.

Both your pistols are on the production gun list. The night sights are acceptable modifications for production. There are also other equipment restrictions for production so read the rule book or discuss it at the ARPC intro course.
