We came home today to find water beading up and dripping from underneath a header that separates the entry way from the "living room" or whatever that room is labeled. No signs of water along the ceiling or walls, but it was obvious where it was soaking the drywall and then condensing underneath the wood. We dried the water and I climbed into the attic, but couldn't find any signs of water or wet wood.
Well, after sitting down for some TV with the wife, it came another downpour and we could hear the water dripping again. This time, there was also a line of water along the ceiling (probably 16-20' up - like our great room, this one only has a roof over it and not the second floor). I drilled some small holes at an angle to clear the top of the beam and let the water drain out, and put down a towel to catch it all. I'm guessing I got maybe a quarter to half a cup. I also went back up into the attack and could see a roof support beam that was wet where it met the ceiling.
I'm not sure if the water is coming in through the ceiling (I couldn't see the if the ceiling plywood was wet) or possibly in where the roof/eaves meet. There are gutters there for the main roof and another for the roof over the front steps, so it is possible it is coming in there somewhere due to water filling the gutter and not draining. I don't want to wait for the gutter guys (who also do some gutter/eave/soffit repair, I think), but not sure if I need an actual roofing company or perhaps a handyman.
Please give me your suggestions and recommendations!
