I have been in Savannah for about five years now and cant get used to those little bastards. I have welts all over my arms and legs from their bites. And then, the Dear Flys, those fuckers bite too!!

Sand gnats (or no-see-ums or sand flies) are not the same as regular gnats, or black gnats. Sand gnats are so small you can't really see them until they are full of your blood and turn red. Regular gnats don't have the same bite. I've hunted Osaabaw island enough to know the difference. Any kind of oil-based repellent will keep them off, if your SO or GF knows an Avon dealer get some woodland fresh scent Skin So Soft lotion, and that will keep them at bay.
Also, it's deer fly. Nothing "dear" about those biting bastards, either. |
