Was anyone else at the RBGC new-member tour today? I am now a member and looking forward to going back when it isn't raining quite so bad!
|
|
I've been wanting to get up there and see about becoming a member so I'd have somewhere outdoors to shoot nearby. I don't like shooting indoors.

Welcome !
Even when it's raining, it's better than indoors. What's your favorite venue? |

I didn't shoot anything today, but as a visitor in the past I think I used the action pistol and 200 yard rifle ranges. At least I think it was the action pistol range - it had resettable metal targets. The tour was cut short due to rain. If I had to pick from what I've used, I would pick those pistol bays. Once I upgrade optics, I think my kids and I will enjoy the 300/600 yard range along with the 24" match AR15 we picked up. There is no doubt the whole family will love the place after 6 years of 25 yard indoor ranges. I see a future of competitions in various venues at this place. View Quote If you and your kids are new to competitive shooting, attend the 100 yard match&clinic a few times (or more), you will enjoy it a lot, and I bet your kids will win some money. |

Long-time member here. I mostly shoot the highpower and mid-range (600 yd) matches, and also help run the Confederate National Matches earlier in the month. USAMU team cleaned up with Brandon Green winning it again. I also use MP1 to zero my hunting rifles, and the action bay with plates to shoot my handguns. I have not been to an indoor range to shoot in over 15 years, I guess.

Love RBGC. Im 'm there at least once a week, 90% of tge time on cowboy hill. Come check out the USPSA match this Saturday.

Well, Sunday is a 600-yard match. If you want to shoot it, it's on me. Call me tonight.

Not enough time for me to prep. I don't have anything that will shoot 600 worth a crap right now. Give me a few months. I'm piecing some stuff together under Julie's radar. View Quote |

Most every event on the calendar is open to the public. Pick one and attend. Meet the RO and members, and if you are safe, you should find two who will sign off on your application. The best intro match is likely the 100 Yard reduced, (.22 with iron sights will work great!) every 4th Sat, I think. Bring kids, (100Y Reduced is VERY kid-friendly) they will be encouraged and likely win a few bucks! Wonderful range, generally great people, two hundred acres of shooting fun. View Quote |

I made the rainy day action pistol shoot in March but work has conspired to keep me away from another match or new member orientation.
I'm going to try and make the May action match. |

Anyone planning on going to the hunter shoot on the 20th? Likely won't get to shoot too much since I'll be introducing a non-shooter from work to rifles, but I'm hopeful that I'll get to test out the 6.5 creed gasser and SPR.

I'd like to at least check the place out at some point. I've only been shooting rifles for about a year and really don't know that I've done a good job sighting things in so I'm hesitant to show up to any of the events.

It's on the silouhette range this month, so if you are at least somewhat on paper at 100yds, someone can help dial you in on the targets to the left side of the range. Broken scope zero tactic is easy with the large berm.

Definitely come out and give it a go. I took 3 guys out today, 2 of which had never fired a rifle before. After getting comfortable at 300m, I had them making consistent hits at 500m. One guy went 5/5 on the 10" plate, which I thought was pretty good for having never shot before. Not sure if he'll be purchasing a rifle in the future, but he definitely will be going to the range again. View Quote |

I'd like to bring the wife out and get a tour of the place. I am considering applying to be a member and would like to see what all is offered. Any idea when tours are offered or how that works?

I hate doing this, but didnt want to start a new thread on River bend for a simple question. How well are they maintaining the gravel road these days? Its been a few years since I made it out to the range for USPSA but they always had it to where a car could easily make it in and out. Is that the case now still?
|
|
We have the road graded on a regular basis, It's always car friendly :)
|
|
I'll be going Saturday early AM to practice on the highpower (big bore) range if anyone wants to come check it out. I'll show you around.

The road is fine, unless you are driving a slammed fart-can ricer, or have those huge 22"+ rims and super-low sidewall tires on your Escalade.

@RamblinWreck - I'd like to be shown around the club. Private message inbound.
Oops, meant to say email......email sent. IM box is full btw. |
|
If anybody is going out to the club tomorrow (Sunday) and would be willing to show the wife and I around send me an email or IM. Thanks!
Am thinking about joining and would like to check the place out. |
|
I emailed the club manager a few days ago, still waiting for a response. Being a holiday weekend, I'm sure they're busy.
@RamblinWreck....no worries, I figured I saw your post too late. If you're going again soon, shoot me a text. |

So today was the Range Tour from 10-3 and I want to make sure I didn't misunderstand Mr. Personality in the office...the range tour takes 5 hours? 5 whole hours!? I can't imagine what you'd do for 5 hours.
ETA: What driving around I did, the ranges look really nice. |

I can't imagine what you'd do for 5 hours. ETA: What driving around I did, the ranges look really nice. View Quote The BEST way to start there is to attend ANY event on the calendar. Highly recommended are the HUNTER'S SHOOT (Del and I started that about 8 years ago) where you shoot 200, 300 and 600 yards. Third Saturday every month. We have people there with the skills to get you hitting ALL ranges, no problem. If you can hit 100 yards, you can shoot this successfully. Small cost and huge fun. The other is the REDUCED 100 which uses ANY iron sight rifle at 100 yards. Fourth Saturday every month. They use reduced size targets that simulate a High Power competition, without the issue of wind and actual 600 yard skills. The Range Officers are expert in getting you on target and improving your three positions, sitting, standing, and prone. Even a .22LR works great for this, my favorite is a Marlin 795 ($150) with "Tech Sights" $69. Makes a great, ACCURATE system with quality sights. If you attend an event, you are sure to meet people who will invite you for more shooting as a guest, and the RO and others will sign your application (two required) if you are reasonable and safe - if you are ready to join. |
|
Those are pretty much the two that I figured I'd try and attend. I like the Hunters shoot, would be fun with my AR-10.
|
|
The hunters shoot is indeed a fun and relaxed place to start. The current ROs do an excellent job, but I miss ole Slashsplat out there!
