I've read a few posts that argue that sbr engraving only becomes necessary upon sale or transfer of the item. Does anybody have any more specific information?

Yeah, I was thinking "how much do you like prison" I bet the same folks who have this idea and have been spreading it use Wesley Snipes' accountant. |

Here is a video from an attorney that deals with NFA on this topic.

I still don't understand. I got a factory made lower with ser# make and model on it. Want to make into a SBR. Sent in the paper work to the AFT and using a gun trust. So when I get the stamp from the ATF what do I engrave on the gun. Will the name of my trust be enough.

And at the gun story they said U don't have to engrave it till you sell it.

Just have it engraved once you get confirmation you're receiving the stamp. |

Now to find a place in Canton that will do the engraving for me.

View Quote Some good reading Here The problem lies in that there is no hard rule or statute to point to. Ask 5 different examiners and you'll get 6 different answers. And then there are field agents that will entirely contradict what examiners will tell you because "they have a badge". Common convention is to have it engraved. Which makes since if you're REALLY making an NFA item from total scratch (silencer or AK blank or anything that doesn't start out with a make/ model/ But I think you're asking about something like an AR lower with pre existing information. Having multiple makers and location information is superfluous and doesn't make any damn sense. Using the existing info on a pre existing firearm does make sense. And without a clear determination there will always be a grey area. Wish I had a better answer for you. My advice is to have it engraved to check that box. It's stupid and imo unneeded but if it makes you sleep better at night just do it. Plus the new Form 1 released a couple weeks ago doesn't make a delineation between the two. So just do it. |

I need someone who can actually engrave near Canton also, I don't trust the mail to send my SIG MPX lower to Tarheel.

Not near Canton but Accurate Ordnance in Winder just got an engraver. And you get to see a gen-u-wine precision bolt gun shop.

View Quote An 80% lower build only needs to be engraved if you're going to manufacture it into an NFA firearm (such as an SBR). Otherwise, the BATFE recommends that you engrave it with manufacturer and a serial number, and cops may not recognize that it's legal to have without a serial number, or state law may require one, but it's not required at the Federal level. |
