Finally got a chance to shoot my recce5 on a scoped (TA31) rifle this weekend.....I got to experience the mirage effect and see how its kinda annoying.

What is the go-to suppressor blanket thing that you guys recommend and are using?

I typically don't advocate the use of mirage covers, unless they for exactly the scenario that you describe above. Slow, dedicated Semi auto or bolt action work.

Armageddon Gear. Made in lovely Buena Vista GA.

Great folks all around down there. Tom was a SM with the 75TH Ranger Regiment for years as well as time with 2ID, the 82ND and JRTC. He was also the BN Sergeant Major of the Army Marksmanship Unit for 2 years.

I have the Rifles Only MAD. Works for me. They also have a H.A.D. for stuff that gets real hot like FA.

I have a couple of Elite Iron.  They work well, and the company has excellent customer service.  I had a loop pull out and they quickly sent a replacement.  They do warn against using them on high volume or full auto, as the cans get real hot.

Why don't you advocate for covers in non-precision use?

I've so far managed not to burn myself in class, but it will happen at some point I'm sure. Have considered a sleeve more than once.

Anything that can keep you from burning yourself is insulating and heating the can.   I forget the brand, but I have one for a cyclone that slips over vs Velcro or wrap. Thought it would be irritating but I'm glad I went that route. It doesn't have and cord like the modern ones to cinch it down but it gets the job done. I think it might be an older tab.

Armageddon seems to be the ticket - and makes a cover specifically for my Silencerco Harvester.

However, I used their 'contact us' form regarding questions on a pouch that would hold the covered silencer....

No response in over a month's time.  Maybe I'll try again or pick up the phone.

The Cole-Tac is very nice. I have two Rifles Only MAD's but would use a Cole-Tac if I needed another one.

Honestly I went with Cole-Tac...only because I ended up buying two of their rear bags at the same time. Plus I'm a sucker for full customization of colors :-)

All my cans are rated for FA fire.  I don't have any FA, and don't do any mag dumps.  I doubt any cover would cause them to exceed their standard operating temperatures, but I do know they get hot enough to burn.

I like the Armageddon ones for bolt gun stuff and run one on my precision can, but would not advocate it for even normal semi auto use.  I burnt mine good quick, and the cover slides around a decent amount.

I am not concerned about the can. There are smart people here that can elaborate but anything connected to your barrel that is holding that much heat can't be good for accuracy. You have to balance that out with the negative effects of mirage. The peak temp may not change much but its ability to cool down definitely is slowed by being wrapped in insulation.

Wish I'd seen this before yesterday...

Anybody use a Manta cover?  Their thermal videos seem pretty convincing on their effectiveness.

They work great if you don't want to ever take it off. I had to cut one off because it wouldn't slide back off.
