So, as many of you have seen in my questions and threads in the recent months, I've put together a 10.5" 300 AAC pistol primarily for short range pig and possible deer hunting.  I have the pistol assembled, like the way it shoots, but am now wondering if I would be better off modifying and upgrading my 30-30.  I don't reload yet, and the 300 ammo is not cheap, sans suppressor, is there really anything a pistol/SBR 300 AAC will do that a 30-30 won't? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its shorter.  And with a suppressor it's quieter.  It will fire in semi-automatic mode rather than lever action mode with a higher magazine capacity.  Other than that, it's really a wash.

I bought mine to be short and light in the woods.  It does that better than the 30-30 with only a small sacrifice in ballistic performance.

Edit: Just saw you mentioned it is a pistol.  My original statement still rings true, but I *strongly* suggest converting it to an SBR.  It's way more cooler that way.  In every way.

30-30 ammo vs .300 Blk is a wash at best.

Lots of options in .300 ammo choice.
Better capacity.
Better performance out of short barrels.
Better ergos.
1000% more modular.

Honestly what's not to love?

Sell the 30-30 and use the money to buy 300 ammo.  :)

I guess I'll play devil's advocate and say I don't care for the .300blk and go with the .30-30. Everyone loves a .30-30, and its an awesome brush gun.

Every American gun owner should have a thutty-thutty.

Thanks for all the replies, I figure y'all just reaffirmed my thoughts.  I reckon I'll just keep both.
