I travel for work....A LOT.
I'm sick of the same 6,000 itunes songs.

Talk radio as a general rule bores me to death, so with that said, what are some of this gang's favorite podcasts that don't want to put you to sleep in the first 2 minutes?

Ballistic Radio for me as well.  Be sure to download episode #53.  ;)

I also like Dan Carlin's stuff although I am more into his Hardcore History than the Common Sense stuff.

Hardcore History and Common Sense are hard to beat. Start out with Wrath of the Khan and go from there. Before you know it you'll have purchased all the archived shows and started re-listening to your favorites.

If you like preparedness then thesurvivalpodcast.com should be at the top of the list.  Doom and Bloom would be another but you can usually skip about 15 minutes into the podcast to get to the material.

For the weird but interesting try Mysterious Universe.  High quality podcast from Australia that does paranormal.  The gralien report is a parabormal based one from here in the US.  Mysterious universe is much better.

I also listen to Christian fringe podcasts that delve into the fringe of scripture that you don't usually hear on Sunday.  These are

View from the Bunker
PID Radio
Canary Cry Radio

I usually have these loaded up for the ride to work, or road trips.

ETA - How could I leave our Hard Core History????

I certainly think it would be worth it, the Norman Leer one they put out for Thanksgiving was very good. I have other things I'm spending my money on at the moment, I might give them a try in January.

I prefer comedy podcasts.  My favorite is Crabfeast with Jay Larson and Ryan Sickler.  Adam Carolla, Jay Mohr, WTF, Joe Rogan get occassional listens.

I like the radio music show "Just Off the Radar" (wow a Tech guy listens to a WUGA prog on NPR), its great for hearing good new bands, you know, since all the music on mainstream FM is just shit, just complete shit. Case in point Athens band Hot Fudge (hotfudge.bandcamp.com), they have a great grungy space-rock kinda sound I find very interesting. There is hope for the future of music... but you gotta dig for it.

A sample episode: justofftheradar 396

I believe these are podcasts, or available as podcasts... I just listen from the website.

One other thing to consider is audio books.  I use Audible.com.  I signed up through a deal on Amazon and get one free book a month.

Same and it's very nostalgic. Been listening to the podcast since the beginning. They don't take many phone calls and most shows are Adams anti progressive political rants.
