I saw an 8 point buck (big body and tall tines!)  today and he was very close to one of my overgrown stands!  I am thinking I better cut those lanes next week!

I broke out my fancy $300 climbing tree stand twice today and didn't see a thing innawoods except some armadillos.

Redlands WMA sounded like a war zone in opening day last year.  I probably only heard ten gunshots all day.

I heard several shots during the short time I was out there this morning.  Looked like a great day to be in a stand!

Congrats on the deer!!

Passed on a small buck and whacked 2 pigs in the evening with the FLIR. One was a small sow about 80 lbs, and is currently reposing on ice in my cooler. Didn't hear that many shots compared to usual opening days. Beautiful weather. Can't wait for next weekend.

We have been seeing more activity in the morning than afternoon. Lots of little bucks chasing does. I saw a small 6 right at dark last night. He waited on the edge of the woods for it to get dark before eating the corn in the food plot. They are smart for being so dumb.

I nailed a big boy last Saturday in Burke County. I took him with my 14.5" LMT using Winchester Silvertips. One shot and he fell.

I'm hunting just a few miles from Wayside, in fact, I take my deer to Wayside Deer processing.  Round Oak is the name of the "town" I believe, Shoal Creek Rd.

I hunted from Fri-Sun, and I didn't see shit. I even sat right off a trail with rubs and scrapes. I think its still too hot.

Saw a big shooter buck cruise by Sun morning but had no shot. Going back after him Friday. They are moving well in the cool mornings, IMO the rut is cranking up.

Yeah, thats the thriving Metropolis of Roundoak...use to hunt some Oconne NF land on Shoal Creek Rd. The homeplace is on Green Settlement Rd. I killed a damn nice 8 pointer of the ONF

land on Shoal Creek rd in 2005. Alot of good deer in that part of JC. Heading that way in the morning for the P/W hunt on Piedmont NWR,

The young bucks are starting to chase, but the true rut won't be for another week or so. I've seen at least 5 young bucks dead on the side of the road in the last 3 days and I've heard several people say they've seen young bucks chasing.

On my property in there has been some chasing, lots of scrapes and rubs everywhere. There has been a big buck in the area for the last 3 years, I've seen it several times but only twice during season but no good shots. Best I could tell it was a 10 point, could clearly see 5 on one side when it was in velvet. I heard this morning that my neighbors grandson shot a big 9 pointer Tuesday morning, I'm thinking it was probably the same buck but it could have been a challenger. I'm happy for the kid but, darn it, I had a lot invested in that one if it was my big buck. Been feeding and supplementing heavy for the last several years to grow a decent buck, may have to grow another one.

I went all day Wednesday and sat in my climber 30' up in a nice oak creek bottom.  Didn't see a thing except for squirrels and a battle possum.  I really need to make friends with some folks with private land and trade my labor planting food plots and clearing shooting lanes in exchange for hunting privileges.

Out the door to the deer lease. UPS just brought me a new thermal toy I was waiting for! Seen tons of small bucks and some chasing, killed 3 pigs in 2 weeks and going for some more pork tonight, plus a big 8 pt with stickers that I have on cam hitting scrapes all over my lease. Good luck to all the hunters. Stay safe.
