Considering a move from south Alabama to Raleigh area. What do you think I should know?

Thanks

So, open carry isn't a thing?

Nevermind, met a lady at Trader Joes who was open carrying and she schooled me up on open carrying.
What else should I know?
SBR? Pistols? Suppressors? All good?

It snows or ices about once per winter and everybody goes totally berserk.

ABC stores typically close at 9 PM and are closed on Sunday.
"Big Ed's" does a pretty darn good breakfast.

...huh, I've lived here for like six years and that's pretty much all I got.

I would try to get in a rural area close to Raleigh if I were you.  Raleigh is nice.   But its a big Liberal haven.   So just be prepared for that.   I bet if you open carry in the city proper a lot of people would be freaking out.   Not that they can do anything about it.  But you might be a lot more likely to get questioned by the cops.  I see people doing it all the time where I live up here in the Triad.  But I doubt if many do it in the Raleigh area.  I prefer concealed because I just don't want the attention.  Oh and welcome to the State if you come.  I know Alabama folk are good to go.

Harnett, Lee, and Johnson (somewhat) are good counties, Wake, Durham, Orange...not so much. Chatham was but has be invaded by Chapel Hill, so it has turn Libatard.

Raleigh is often refer to as an Area containing the cities surrounding it.  The Research Triangle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_Triangle , commonly referred to as simply The Triangle, is a region in the Piedmont of North Carolina in the United States, anchored by North Carolina State University, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the cities of Raleigh and Durham and the town of Chapel Hill. So you'll have great sports team to cheer for  and villains of equal skills to boo on. If you get seriously sick/injured, that is the best groupings of medical specialists that are in the upper end of their field. Hope you never need them, but it is a big perk.

You'll also be able to drive 2-3 hours and be deep in the mountains or   at the beach. So a random day trip is always in the cards, although the weather changes absurdly rapidly. Snow, sleet and/or ice will cause a major shut down and people can't drive on it. Due to limited experience largely. If we get an inch expect news for days of the Blizzard of (insert year here). The people gone insane, bread and milk will be harder to find than .22 cal ammo....

There were two recent threads about moving to Charlotte which is the other big city in the state. They are at opposite sides(about 4.5 hours apart) for north and south but the information may be of use to you. The cities are competitive and share a lot of similar issues and bonuses. Although Charlotte has Google fiber being installed which of course is causing the cable and phone company to suddenly be able to upgrade the services and speeds in Charlotte,  which Raleigh won't see an advantage from as quickly.

Also Raleigh has a great large gun show regularly.

I live in Fuquay-Varina, which is about 25min from downtown Raleigh and love it. It's suburb where I am, in a cookie cutter subdivision, but I'm used to it from living in NY my whole life up until 18 months ago. The amount of liberals kinda surprised me, but again, it's much better than in NY. I'd have liked more property so I could shoot on it, but that'll come with time. My property value has also increased a decent bit in that short period of time I have lived here, so a move to the sticks might not be out if the question in the future.

Thanks everyone for the heads up. Seems like a good place to live if you can tolerate some strange people.
