My wife has a wild hair to drive down to the Outer Banks and spend a couple of days. Right now, we're thinking of driving down tomorrow, staying Saturday and Sunday nights, then driving back Monday evening. The problem is... well, everything is either booked or crazy expensive.

I thought I'd post here and see if any locals might have suggestions. Our top contender at the moment is the KOA in Rodanthe, but we're open to anywhere as long as it's on the ocean. We don't have an RV, but we're cool with hotels, motels, cabins, or tent camping.

Any suggestions?

Priceline.com? We decided at the last minute to go to Wilmington for Memorial Day a few years ago and ended up in the Hilton for about $60/night.

We ended up at the KOA - got a little "cabin" that's basically a bedroom built into a shed. No private bathroom, so it's basically camping with real beds and A/C. It's right on the beach and ended up being like $120 / night after taxes and such.

Now my next question - who do I call when I get my Jeep bogged down on the beach? :)
