Want to do 2 night loop. Either alone or with one buddy. Not too challenging. Ideally I can pitch tent off the trail for privacy and maybe have a campfire. Need to loop back to the car. Suggestions? New to this so I don't want a suicide mission but do want a challenge. Thanks!

I used to do weekend loops in Pisgah starting at the fish hatchery near Brevard.  It's been a number of years, but I recall variations that were suitable for trips with the guys or girls.

Asheville is da shiznit...Lots to do, and all within close proximity to fine dining and nightlife.

I'm a big fan. Hauling gear (even a mid sized pack) on the stairs is a workout no doubt, but definitely a good spot

Try going up the other way to the primitive spots a little farther out. That climb is a looooong one!

South Mtn is pretty nice, even the car camping is nice (Can't get the fiance to bacpack).

Haha we car camp there often for the same reason - wife demands there be bathrooms nearby. Pro tip, Campsite 5 is by far the best one.

There's this nifty little thing called the Appalachian Trail. Check it out! It's possible in some places, especially around the Pisgah area, to connect with different trails and do a loop.

Thanks for the input. Haven't camped since scouts in 1980. Jeez I feel old!

South Mills River.  Plenty of trails, awesome scenery and not as heavily traveled as some other spots.  Parking is at the Turkey Pen Gap trailhead off hwy. 280 east of Brevard or you can access it from a dead end dirt road off 276 just up from Slinding Rock in the pink beds area.

Get off the river trail for maximum privacy.

South Mountain's figure 8 is just a two day one night hike, isn't it?

What sucks about doing that alone is that you have to backtrack. With two cars, you can have a lot more fun for a two day trip.
