He ran unopposed in 2010. Cumberland Couty turn-out is usually around 51K. A couple thousand votes could swing it.
Butler didn't really show his lick-spittle toady-to-Comrade-Attorney-General "Red" Cooper-side until after the 2010 election.
That's when he went from being mum on signing Form 1s and 4s to his out-right "no" stance (he's traditionally signed them and issued machine gun permits for the Democratic fat-cats that bank roll him and buddy-buddy good boy Party cadre judges and attorneys - peons? not so much).
Of course, as the President of the NC Sheriffs' Association he was the leader of the charge against HB 937 overall and the repeal of the pistol purchase permit in particular.
Oh, how essential the PPP is to gun control in stopping gun trafficing and strawman sales and prohibited persons from getting pistols... Except the BATFE joint task force that had a year-long program to stem those things in Cumberland County didn't ever find any value in them. Seems to me that it would be easy to ID the straw buyers that buy all those pistols that the "youth" of Cumberland County are are disproportionately shot by other "youth" of Cumberland County with.
