So I'll ask the obvious question, who thinks Moose Butler will get another term, so he can hand it over in 18 months to someone else hand picked by him?  Charlie Baxley has done a good job so far of calling him out on his numerous flaws, but he has a lot of financial backers for this final term supposedly

While I haven't followed the election, I'm of the opinion the only thing that will get Moose Butler out of the seat is Moose Butler.  The dude has been there forever.

This. Unless there is a major scandal an incumbent sheriff will stay in if he wants to.

 

That is usually the way it goes for Judges also, but GRNC goes so far as to give suggestions for judges.  I have my sample ballot filled out with the GRNC party line and will take it to the voting booth with me.

He ran unopposed in 2010. Cumberland Couty turn-out is usually around 51K. A couple thousand votes could swing it.



Butler didn't really show his lick-spittle toady-to-Comrade-Attorney-General "Red" Cooper-side until after the 2010 election.



That's when he went from being mum on signing Form 1s and 4s to his out-right "no" stance (he's traditionally signed them and issued machine gun permits for the Democratic fat-cats that bank roll him and buddy-buddy good boy Party cadre judges and attorneys - peons?  not so much).



Of course, as the President of the NC Sheriffs' Association he was the leader of the charge against HB 937 overall and the repeal of the pistol purchase permit in particular.



Oh, how essential the PPP is to gun control in stopping gun trafficing and strawman sales and prohibited persons from getting pistols... Except the BATFE joint task force that had a year-long program to stem those things in Cumberland County didn't ever find any value in them. Seems to me that it would be easy to ID the straw buyers that buy all those pistols that the "youth" of Cumberland County are are disproportionately shot by other "youth" of Cumberland County with. Unless they're stolen.
