THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT So that I don't have to put her down? I really hate to do this. It breaks my heart. Unfortunately, my dog, Diasy, hates my 18 month old daughter. She seems to be good with every other kid she meets, but my daughter is a threat to her perceived place in the pecking order. She snapped at her today for the second time. She growls at her. She just doesn't like her. A few months ago, on the advice of my uncle (who is very knowledgeable about training dogs), I bought a $200 shock collar with the intention of zapping the shit out of her anytime she showed aggression towards my daughter. Unfortunately, I work all day and my wife was too lazy to keep up with it. So the training has been ineffective. She really is a great dog. She incredibly loyal and loving; loves to play and dote on us. She's a Nova Scotian Duck Tolling Retriever (has never been a working dog, just a family pet). She's 8 years old, 40lbs. We absolutely love her. But I cannot abide a dog that won't tolerate my daughter. She comes with a PetSafe remote training collar (I paid about $200 for it at PetSmart). She's current on all her shots and we'll provide all her vet records. Full disclosure: She, like many dogs, likes to get into the trash. I know that this is typical dog behavior, but it might be a deal breaker for someone. She is also developing arthritis in her hips. We'll provide a new supply of glucosamine dog treats. Well... There it is. I don't have a lot of hope that someone will take me up on this. If I don't have a home for her in a week, I'm going to have to put her down. She probably has a good 5 to 8 years left, if someone is willing. I'll answer any questions you have by PM. Daisey (taken 1 min ago) |

If things do not work out with the animal rescue please let me know. I know several in Chesterfield county that handle animal rescues. I know finding a good home will not be a problem.
I know this is heartbreaking to yu and the family but understand the reason. I have a one year old grandson and have 7 rescued dogs. Most of them are lab or pit and I would have to give them up if I found one aggressive towards my grandson. It would break my heart. |

We have someone coming over tomorrow to meet her; a lady from Charleston. We're going to see if it's a good fit. It sucks. We've been spending so much time with her since we made this decision, and she's being such a good girl that we're starting to doubt ourselves.

Sounds to me a case of jealousy rather than aggressiveness.
You could always make a call and explain you and your wife have changed your mind. It does happen. Its a decision you and your wife have to agree on. |
