It is not a first, Missouri and Indiana both have universal reciprocity, and there may be a couple of others that do not come instantly to mind. NC is unusual in that respect, but not alone.

What's BS is that NC appears to be one of the few states that accepts a California permit, but California doesn't accept an NC permit. Still debating on taking my chances when I visit this summer.

Kudos to NC! Hopefully we the people can urge our senators and representatives to pass these common sense laws in all the states!

Anyone a NC resident and only have an out of state CCW permit that NC recognizes, e.g. a Florida one? Wonder how the NC CCW law deals with that, say someone moves to NC with out an out state valid CCW permit

At least common sense would dictate that, IANAL YMMV and all that. The grey area, as I understand it, seems to be if you're an NC resident and have another state's Non-Resident permit but not an NC Resident permit. Since NC has universal reciprocity now, it would appear that you can, as an NC resident, carry using another state's non-resident permit. But again, grey area, IANAL YMMV etc. I have an NC permit and don't worry about playing semantics games with possible felony charges. It wasn't hard to get, as long as you don't live somewhere like Durham, Orange or a handfull of other counties. |

It's nice, but I'm finding it hard to find places to go that don't sell alcohol...including my hotel...
