I'll be in the Columbia area late June for two weeks. I noticed that I will not be able to open carry. I did read one law that said you could have your pistol in the glovebox locked while driving. Is that accurate? In Washington thats a no go unless you have a ccw. Aslo are there any good places to shoot the 45 / 5.56?

Thanks

Yes to a handgun in the glove box. It does not need to be locked.

There are a couple of indoor ranges in town, none that are 5.56 friendly, and not many public or open to the public outdoor ranges in the close vicinity.

At least none that I am aware of.

PSA just opened their indoor range in Columbia, goes up to .308. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_301/213114_New_Store_and_Gun_Range_Announcement.html

PSA has not yet opened their range. They may have it opened by late June, but the interior of the building has not been constructed yet.

The most versitile option is to drive about 50 miles north and go to the Indian Creek Range in Newberry. It is open-air out to 100 yds; you can shoot anything you want. I find it worth the drive, as do most columbian shooters.

To be exact my family and I will be in Chapin on the lake. Looks like Newberry isn't to far away. Hopefully PSA will be open but if not Newberry it is.

Thanks for the help all !

Ah my bad, I thought the date they posted for the grand opening or whatever was for both the storefront and range.

If you go to Indian Creek, try to go in the morning on a week day. The afternoons and especially the weekends can be crowded. There is no range officer and you'll need to bring your own supplies. It's been a while since I shot there, but I used to carry my own PVC target stand(s), targets, etc.
