I'm heading to St Louis the first weekend in June for the Metallica concert and I need some help on where to stay. The concert is Sunday night and I am planning on staying that night and heading home Monday morning.  I just want to find a decent area or hotel along I70 on the west side of the city so I can  avoid morning traffic but close enough to do some sightseeing on Saturday. Thanks.

If it were me, I would stay along the I-40/64 corridor. The Hampton Inn across from Forest Park (on Oakland Ave) is nice but if you go just a couple of miles farther west there is a Drury Inn at the intersection of Brentwood Blvd & Eager Road as well as a Homewood Suites at the intersection of Clayton Road and Brentwood Blvd.  From the Homewood, you can walk to Crate & Barrel, Maggiano's and PF Changs as well as The Galleria mall. The Drury is right down the road but closer to Whole Foods, REI, Trader Joes, Target, etal. The Homewood is probably a little quieter but if you stay there, try to get a room that faces away from I-170.

I agree with Moose. Stay on 64 and slightly West.
I usually suggest Westport, but that's further West than your request. But it is very close to 70, and you can hop on Page/364 West in the morning.

Came to post this same question

We are attending the Metallica show as well and don't want to make the drive back home afterward. Procrastinated a bit on the hotel booking though. I know nothing of St Louis and which areas to avoid.

On 40/64 you are good off the highway pretty much anything west of 170

On 70 you are good off the highway pretty much anything west of 270

Area with a lot of hotels that are in a good area and 20 minutes from downtown.
1. Chesterfield (specifically the Chesterfield valley 2 miles of continuous shopping and premium outlets)
2. Downtown St. Charles 5th street exit (has casinos, historic area, Bass Pro, etc)

Way way way better off staying off 64 vs 70.  70 east of lindbergh is fairly ghetto.  You'd have to stay out in Maryland heights or by the airport to have a decent hotel off of 70.
