Looking for the combo (2x4 and furring strips) steel target stands similar to below.  Seems like a lot of the cost is in the shipping and not in the material/work.

Anyone here do these or know of someone who can?  Looking to stay as close to Columbia as I can, but willing to travel.

Thanks.

There's a guy near Jefferson City who makes stuff like that. His name is Ken Frey, and he used to advertise on facebook. I can't find a link, because my internet is so bad. Try doing a search for something like Frey Targets, because I think he has a website now.

Not to steal your thread, but have any of the STL guys ever visited or bought anything from these guys in Weldon Spring?  https://www.custommetalprod.com/

Was thinking about grabbing a few for my dad for Christmas.

WOW, they want $70 for that.  It's like $10 in material.  You need to find a friend that can weld!

I've made about 200+ of them, sold them for $15.00 didn't have the thumb screws or the center 2x4 holder, never saw a need for either.

I know what it's for, never saw the need.
I built ours for range use, as such they are dedicated for use with cardboard targets using furring strips.

the 2x4 will get cut off several times during a big match - thus the, No need , comment

Not everyone who wants target stands is shooting a match.

If you are just looking for the base plates...

Drive out in the sticks and pick up some old tires from the side of the road.
Cut 2 holes = free base plate.

Need more weight in the base - shovel some dirt in there.

Here's my hillbilly target stands:

Easy to move around too, just roll em...<img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I can't take ownership of it as I was tooling around youtube and saw that capandball.eu fella shooting on a range in Hungary that was using tires and target stands.
Thought to myself - awesome idea. Those tires have been under my back deck for the last 6 or so years.

I recently built some target stands as well. Metal by the foot in KCMO is a great place to get all your cut metal, then buzz it together.

Can anyone tell me what kind of springs are used behind the gongs on 2x4 top mount (with the bolt that goes thru)

I used pieces of an old conveyor belt cut into strips 2x6 or so with a hole drilled into each end to hang my solid targets.
That way when they accidently get shot up its easy and cheap to replace.
And it takes quite a few hits to destroy one.
I would imagine cut up pieces of tire would be about the same thing.

Metal Supply estimates $45 each for such a stand... They are on 69 in Claycomo if you want to look them up.
