Hello Miss Members

We're doing a road trip from Illinois to see the Arch.
We're looking for places to see and eat unique to Missouri

We love State Parks and a good taste of America.  We like historic places, specially unique to immigrants of this country.
It grounds us and makes us appreciate America more when we visit such places.

No Hard Rock Café/ Rainbow Forest or them Bass Pro places please.
Something close to highways, unique, maybe some military museum and such

Thanks

If "we" includes kids, go to the City Museum

If no kids, then head to the wine districts of Augusta and Hermann.

Wow, those museums are all interesting places to.  Not sure if we can see it all.

That City Museum is wild and fun looking

If you end up going to Jefferson barracks, the Cafe Telegraph is decent food. (http://cafetelegraph.com)

You need to do city museum if you have kids or just like to crawl around in an artistic environment.
Art museum, Missouri history museum and zoo are free and all close to each other and the highway and you can go to the Loop for food and a taste of urban St. Louis.

You should consider Cahokia mounds, especially if you are into or want to learn a little about native american history. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Stay 10 miles away with free parking.  I can think of no reason to stay down town.

Either south on I55 or west toward Clayton.

When Mrs. Bladeswitcher and I visit a city, we like to stay within walking distance of bars and restaurants. An alternative is to stay within walking distance of a light rail line.

I haven't visited St. Louis is years so I don't know the answer but are there hotels near the Metro line? Perhaps the OP could stay a few blocks from a metro station and ride to and from an entertainment district.

Stay at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis.  They have a Metro Link station at the casino.  The downside is there's no concealed carry on public transportation in IL.  Not sure about MO laws.  But, if it's concealed carry, nobody should know...  However, I'm not suggesting that you would or should break the laws of the great state of IL.

More important decision  to make:

Pappy's or Bogart's Smokehouse

Both.

You may also want to indulge in the iconic Ted Drew's Ice Cream if they are still open.  They also, next door, have Gooey Looey's Gooey Butter Cakes.

That's a good suggestion.  There are motels along the St. Lous Metro on the Ballas Road branch, but I don't know how close, would need to research a little.

I'm pretty sure there's a Drury Inn right next to Union Station. I attended a conference there years ago. The OP could ride the metro from there to the Landing area (if that's still a thing) and the U. City Loop area.

Thanks guys.
Wife scored some Groupon/combo deal with Hilton at Ballpark.  Just have to suck it up with $25 parking and no WiFi in bedroom.  WiFi in lobby anyways.

Wow, that is terrible that they don't have WIFI in their rooms and Uber would probably be good to use to get around. A couple more suggestions are to hit up Crown Candy (bring your CCW) and get the BLT and a milkshake.  Also, Broadway Oyster Bar is a decent place for some food and a few drinks on the patio if it's nice outside.  A good way to kill some time might be to check out the Brewery Lights at the AB Brewery as well.

Meh, I think Peacemaker Lobster and Crab is way better. Oyster bar's prices have gone up, and portions have gone down.

I agree on Crown Candy though. That BLT is legit.

They just announced this yesterday. Hopefully you're coming to St. Louis before November 28th. The trip to the top is pretty cool.

The City Museum, as other have already mentioned, does cost but is a lot of fun if you got kids.

didn't want to go up anyway.

plus it was 35 degrees that morning we did our walkabout downtown.

Pappy's Smokehouse is SWEEEEEET.  Brought back a slab and sauce.

City Museum was fun.  Again, missed out on the outdoor stuff due to the bitter cold.
Wife got her Tim Horton Hot Chocolate and donuts and I got my Yeungling Lager for souvenir

Thanks everyone for the suggestion
