We are inundated with them.  Surrounded by century trees, the neighborhood is stupid with tree rats.

Last easter, we put out plastic eggs with candy and money in them for the kids the night before.  My son woke me up to tell me the back yard was covered with eggs broken open and candy everywhere.  Looked out the back window to see the little F'ers (tree rats) fighting over the eggs.

That was enough for me.  My old Crossman 760 and a new Benjamin Air are doing a nice job of culling the population.  It was almost scary how many we got in the first week.

But they're so much fun to watch!   The ones that come to my feeders seemed baffled by the simplest counter measures.

Skin, quarter, boil, roll in flour, salt and pepper, then fry.

Drop all the grays you can. They are really putting pressure on the Reds where I am.

One bite of Fried squirrel done right and you'd change your mind.

The young ones are nice & tender for frying.  Salt, pepper, roll in flour then drop em in the skillet.

The older ones get a steam bath and gravy over rice or noodles.

My mom used to cube em up and throw them in the pressure cooker to make stew.   Wasn't my favorite but edible.   Never liked em fried

It's just that I can't stand the thought of eating RATS!!!!

My parents grew up during the Depression, I've eaten...

Beef Tongue
Ox Tails
Pigs Feet
Head Cheese
Stinging Nettles (Have to be Parboiled first)
And other things I don't wish to think about.

I used to eat pickled pigs feet when I was a kid for a snack.

Hey, I'm with you. Nothing but a rat. I'll try just about any other kind of meat out there, and between culinary school and most of my company being hunters, I've tried some weird things, but I'll pass on the rat

I don't hunt squirrels (or anything else for that matter) but the OP's poll is full of fail:

You haven't lived until you have seen the damage that a small Pine Squirrel can cause inside, and out side a home. They destroy everything, and are smarter then fox and grey squirrels and half the size. The best part is  they don't eat well due to their diet of mostly pine cones. They are the true tree rats. Then they have a home range of 2 miles.

12ga for Summer, when they like to hide behind leaves, but Fall/Winter .22lr is good.

.22, 12ga and 20ga.  I did shoot a black squirrel (melanistic gray) with a .38 special.

.177 is the preferred method inside the city limits.

Last confirmed kill was with a Daisy pistol at ~13 yds.

Yeah, I can't vote on this one.  I'm restricted to air powered weapons.  Work great.  But not on the poll

ETA:  My son pissed one off on Sunday when he got the luckiest shot I ever saw nailing one on the power line from our house to the pole with his anniversary model Red Ryder.  Tree rat yelped as it fell, shook off the sting and took off.

What I use depends on how hungry and how fast I want 'em.
Squirrel brains.... Now there's a delicacy.

Yeah, I had parents who grew up during the depression as well.  Just about anything is fair game.  It all depends on just how hungry you are.

The retired couple I used to stay with while my parents were at work would feed me squirrel brain gravy and biscuits with scrambled duck eggs and polk salad for breakfast pretty frequently.

From a rifle, 22 CB's are no louder than a pellet rifle.  Shoot out a window or doorway, with the muzzle inside the house.  The neighbors hear nothing.

Boxtraps work well also.  Was catching 3 or 4 a day from a single trap when my peaches were ripe.
