The Remington 700s will not take AR mags...  Certain models do have detachable box mags, but not AR mags to my knowledge...  Thats not saying someone hasn't modded one too take them, I just haven't seen a factory one setup...

I have one each a remington sps tactical and a mossberg mvp neither are 308. caliber . both are functional rifles with the remington being more refind with a better trigger smother action and very accurate with a ton of after market support . It is also much heavier and the houge stock sucks pitch it and get a good stock . Your groups will shrink drasticlly .
the mossberg is a great utility rifle the action isnt as smooth  its not as accurate as the remington but still has acceptable accuracy and the detachable magazine makes for easy loading  , I think the 308 takes sr25 type mags and p-mags .
If you plan on shooting factory ammo everything should be fine but you are restricted to mag length ammo for the detachable magazine's . The factory box magazine on the remington will let you load your bullets longer to squeeze a bit more accuracy or velocity and longer type heavy match bullets . I like the mossberg and dont regret buying it but the remington just gives me more confidence on placing a more precision shot if that makes any sense .

remington 700 300 blackout
bell and carlson m40a1 stock leupold mk4 2.5 x 8 mildot optic

mossberg mvp thunder ranch model  223
sightron sih tac 3 x 9 x 40 optic  lancer L5 magazine .

I'm not knocking the Mossberg at all, but if you have the Remington already I'd stick with that...

Unless I'm missing something, the only real advantage I see with the Mossberg is that it can take AR mags...

I would translate as such:

He has decided to keep Remington.  In doing so, he is going get a nice sniper stock for it and trick it out, I'm assuming by adding more go fast goodies and still buy the mvp 30...

Remmy is the correct answer ...

While there's nothing wrong with the Mossberg, they 700 is a widely proven and accepted platform.  Unless you never plan on doing any modifications/upgrades, there's no reason to consider the Mossberg.

Welcome to the MOHTF.

I've been around a looong time ... I just go in spurts posting here, on and off.  So when I went to login after a few months of inactivity, login info wasn't stored in my computer anymore and I'd forgotten which email address I used to register.  Whatever, had to create a new account.

I believe the way it works is this, shooting .223 is ok in a 5.56 chamber but not the other way around.

If you get a 223 wylde chamber both are good to go.

That being said......I have a savage bolt gun in .223 and in my younger/dumber years I shot tons of 5.56 through it.

I'm not dead but YMMV.
