Been years since I have been up to your neck of the woods, and was hoping to get some intel before venturing that way again.  Specifically, I am interested in locating good live music venues so I can watch their event calendars for any shows I might want to catch.  With my relatively recent relocation, I am now about an hour to and hour and a half closer to your fair city so a road trip is not out of the question for the right concert.

Rock, metal, blues predominantly but will occasionally venture out a bit of my comfort zone.  Is Outland still decent?

Haven't been to the Outland in a while but they have a good selection of music normally.  I've only ever seen red dirt/ Texas country bands there though. I'd say that is your best bet.

+1 for Outland
Reverend Horton Heat and Hank III were there a month ago.  I've seen Jason Boland and Roger Creager there.

cz75fan would be the one to ask. I know that cat gets around to all the good outdoor music stuff. I will message him on FB.

Outland is still going strong. Cartoons has a pretty good line up of bands through there. Usually plenty of music to listen to around town in the smaller bars & pubs, too. Pull up the Nightlife section of the Springfield News-Leader, it will have the line up of what's going on around town. While not music specific programs they're fun and there's always good bands playing at stuff like the Chili Cook-Off in Feb., Wingapalooza coming up here in Nov., Cajun Cook-Off in May. Just finished up with a couple of Oktoberfest celebrations. Our local Bluesfest comes up in Sept. every year, too.  HTH

Nathan P Murphys use to be the blues place.  I've seen some excellent bands there.

I miss going to Culley's Pub on Thursday nights and listening to Allen Ross.  Some of the best times I'll never remember.

Always caught the metal shows at Outland and the Oasis.  There was one other place downtown but I think they closed and I can't remember the name.

If you are talking about The Rockwell, I more than likely was the person that carded you or arm-banded you at the door.

Yep, it was The Rockwell.  Last time I went there was to see Bionic Jive.  I don't even remember what year that was.  They handed me their album with all their signatures on it which was pretty cool.
