Not to be a prick, but have all their real needs been taken care of? Seems like a new stock would be very low on my list.

I personally would be VERY leary of a gun that had been hot enough in a fire to burn the stock off. Most likely is that all the temper and hardness in the barrel and receiver has been compromised as a result of it and may not be able to handle the pressures.

I understand clothes, shelter and everything is extemely important. By the tire the trucks got there one wall was all that was left. They lost everything. This was the only thing salvageable. This rifle was a replacement for one they lost in another fire. I do know it seems like a small thing but right now it's all that he wants to do for his dad. The community they come from is one of those tight knit communities thatll take care of their people.
It's a small thing that they could walk into the rubble and pull it out and it is still mechanically operable. I won't be firing it but I did tell him I knew people that I could turn to for help to be pointed in the right direction. |

A quick search found this: http://www.gun-parts.com/savagestocks/
It looks like a basic stock is about $125.00. |

If the Red Cross was not there, please contact them. They will help the family with temporary housing, clothing, and food.

I believe they were called as well. Be sure everyone that Im not as reckless and uncaring as it seems. I asked today what they needed his answer "I don't know yet"
He is going to let me know. I still think there is some shock setting In. They have lost two houses to fire on the same property and overall the property has bad juju four total structure fires over the past owners. This friend had to dispatch his fire dept to his parents home before anyone could get there to relieve him so he could go help. They do have a nice inhabitable camper trailer they can live in for a temporary solution. They are a pretty resourceful country family. They'll get by especially with their family and friends. If anyone wants to help out, and I don't expect it from anyone, then stay tuned to this thread and I'll keep it updated best I can. |

Sadly, it may be cheaper to buy a replacement rifle than a replacement stock for a Savage Model 342. |

If they are dead set on fixing the rifle at least tell them to stand off for the first few shots because as sentimental as the weapon is, I'm thinking they would not like it if it blew up in someones face for the sake of sentimental value. Not trying to bash, please advise them to use extreme caution.

It's a .22 hornet, not a .300 ultra mag, I'm sure it's not going to blow up, it may not shoot straight, which would be my concern, people always think the steel used in firearms is the same rockwell as their Buck knife, not typically the case.
