THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Hey guys...

I've got a little cash to spend, and I've decided that besides doing some stuff on the house, buying a pool, and finally setting up my natural gas powered standby generator, that I want to buy some more gun related items. As stupid as it sounds to some... I'm wanting to hedge my bets in case future legislation makes it difficult or impossible to aquire firearms.

So far I have a very modest inventory of stuff, but... It's just these last few months that I've really been getting back into firearms and such. Used to have a pretty good collection, but... Long story short... No longer. All of the following was purchased in the last few months... So it's a start.

Seems kinda stupid to post all this out on an open forum... But... I'm curious to see what you guys recommend buying next.

Pistols -

1) XD Subcompact 9mm
2) XDm 3.8 Compact 9mm
3) Walther PK380 (Wifes Pistol)
4) Hi-Point 9mm (Was $25 and I use it as a "truck gun")
5) Walther P22
6) Colt Woodsman Match Target 4" .22

Rifles -

1) Daniels Defense V5 - EoTech 553 on Larue Mount, Surefire MVF-515G, Troy BUIS, Lots of other little stuff such as KNS Pins, etc.
2) Basic CMMG M4 Clone - Cheapo Quad Rail, MagPul AFG, VLTOR Flip up Gas Block Sight, Flip Up Rear Sight... 'bout it.
3) Ruger 10/22 - Old school... Back when they were still built "right".

Other -

1) Spikes Tactical Assembled Lower w/ no upper.
2) Spikes Tactical Stripped Lower
3) DPMS Upper Reciever
––- 2 and 3 are to be assembled soon as a "precision" rifle... (See my Cerakote thread...)

Magzines for AR - All Currently Loaded and not taken into account in ammo totals.

1) 20 Windowed 30 Round PMags (M855)
2) 10 Non-Windowed 30 Round PMags (M855)
3) 10 Non-Windowed 20 Round PMags (Hornady Tap 55gr)
4) 20 Regular 30 Round USGI Style Mags w/ good followers. (M855)

Ammo -

1) 1000 Rounds of 9mm FMJ
2) 500 Rounds of 9mm Hollow Point
3) Misc Boxes of Home Defense style ammo for 9mm, 45, and 380. (Yes... 45 even though I don't have one currently!)
4) 1000 Rounds of LC M855
5) 400 Rounds of PMC Hollow Point 55Gr.
6) 1000 Rounds of Hornady Tap 55Gr.
7) 500ish Rounds of reloaded ammo with Hornady 55Gr Polymer Tips

Stuff on the way... Whenever it comes in stock darnit! -

1) S&W Shield 9mm

Stuff I'm gonna buy when I find time to meet up with the right people (Sub_MG)...

1) 22 Sparrow Supressor
2) M4-2000 Supressor
3) Ti-Rant 9 Supressor

Stuff I REALLY want... But haven't talked myself into yet.

1) XDs 45 Pistol (More than Likely will be buying this next week)
2) FN Five Seven Pistol (Will be buying one as soon as I can find one for a reasonable price in FDE)
3) Gun Safe (Currently using a deadbolt locked closet in the farthest room of the house.)
4) Remington 870 Marine Magnum
5) Benelli M4 (or similar)
6) Some sort of Precision Bolt Action Rifle... Remingtion 700 Maybe?

So.... After all that... What say you guys?

I've already setup my gun trust... So that's taken care of...

Not really looking for "collector" items.... I prefer to actually shoot the stuff I have sitting around. (Besides the Woodsman... It's a keepsake from my Grandfather.)

And replacement parts.

Ammo is always good... So thats definitely on the list.

As for replacement parts... Good point... I have one LPK that I stripped out of a lower, but otherwise nothing. What would you suggest to stock up on?

Buy the gun safe first. What is 1-2K to protect your one AR that is worth that much? Hell a lot of us here have scopes that cost more than our safes.

If you plan on moving don't get a 1000 lb monstrosity, just get a normal 450 lb job and bolt it down. Ask me how I know.......

+1 on buying a safe! I'd say get the biggest possible, hire Two Men and a Truck to move it if necessary. I spent what I had in cash for my safe, and though it's bigger than most (and heavy as shit), but I kinda wish it was a little bigger alot of the time. You would be surprised how fast a safe fills up when you put comparably tall AR rifles with optics on top and the grip on bottom.

As for guns.....can only give you what I would buy based on what you have currently....
-Glock 34, add magazine extensions and Dawson Precision fiber optics. Perfect 3-gun pistol.
-Mossberg Jerry Miculek 930 shotgun....great home defense and great 3-gun shotgun out of the box, esp for the money!
-Aimpoint T1 (reliable, compact, long battery life)
-Geissele trigger
-lots of ammo

I have really been getting into 3-gun as of late...and when I thought I was a much better than average shooter, I found out I wasn't even close. After 3 months of 3-gun matches (4 matches), I again feel like I can hold my own against the top 20-30%, and can outshoot about anyone who walks off the street. It's a great way to get good behind a trigger, and see how you do with a little adrenaline in your system.

Sell your ammo to buy a Dillon 1050.

Reloading saves tons of money if you shoot a lot.

Awesome input guys! Thanks a bunch! Keep it coming!

I'll respond to each suggestion since that seems most efficient...

I'll definitely pick up one (if not 2) BCG's... I'll also check out the Repair Kits. As for taking a class... I'm taking an armorers course this month so thats a start. I'd love to take some of the "tactial training" courses, but as of right now I'm not "fit" enough to even consider it. It's something I'm working on though and it's the #1 reason for the pool purchase.... Low impact exercise.

The safe is definitely a good idea.... But so far the reasoning I haven't purchased one is the fact that I have NO idea where to put it. I live in a 1000 sq. ft. house currently, and other than the garage I can't think of any place I'd be able to fit a safe big enough to make me happy. Problem I have with the garage is it almost seems like it'd be even EASIER for somebody to steal either the entire safe, or break into it from there.

All of my gear is covered by insurance for fire or theft, or whatever... So thats not a concern... It'd still suck to see my stuff in the hands of some felon though.

The eventual plan (next 5-10 years) is to build our own home, and there will actually be a built in "vault" at that point.

If you guys still think a safe is a good idea after reading about my circumstances and knowing it'll be in the garage... Got any input on brands?

Regarding the wolf Ammo.... See below.

Great Post! Thanks!

See above on the safe situation and below on ammo...

Some of the other suggestions have really struck my interest... Especially that Mossberg! That thing is alot of Shotgun for not much money!

Optics such as the T1 are definitely on the list also.

Triggers... I need to find some to test what I like... But I definitely want to upgrade the triggers in my AR's... Especially the Daniels. It's literally the worst trigger I've ever felt, which is odd for such a decent rifle. :/

As for 3 Gun... It looks like a blast! I'm working towards it... Need to drop a considerable amount of weight though before I'm ready.

I'm actually already pretty well set up in this department...

A good friend of mine wanted to get into reloading, so I threw in some cash (I kinda feel bad cause I came out way ahead in the deal!) to help get him setup... He now has a 1050, a 650 (maybe 550... Used for resizing 223 to 300BLK.), and a bunch of other reloading equipment right down to micrometer dies for all of the common calibers. 380, 9mm, 40, 45, .223, .300BLK, I'm sure I'm forgetting some also.

The deal there is that I buy the brass, bullets, primers, and powder... He'll load them for free.

Works out pretty sweet with my limited space issue.... Eventually though I'll buy a smaller system for doing "hand loads" on specialty stuff.

1000#, hell you can just carry that under your arm

I purchased years ago a National Security that weighs 2200 lbs. We had to use a 16 ton roll out crane to move it.

How about the Franklin 50?

http://www.libertysafesofmissouri.com/safe-franklin-safes-ps-6.html?tab=colors

Seems to be a little more safe for not alot more money... And I like the extra height over the Fatboy.

If you are close to Kansas City, go by Rogers Sporting Goods in Liberty, MO off of I-35 and 291. I looked all over and ended up buying a safe through them because I could get more safe for my money, grab any accessories I wanted there at decent prices, and they loaded it into the truck on the spot for me.

Welp... Here's what I've decided on... But need a bit more advice (See item "7")...

1) Liberty Franklin 50 Safe

2) FN Five Seven, 1K Ammo, and reloading equipment for my buddies Dillon 1050. (Still gotta find an FDE for a decent price, as well as a decent deal on ammo...)

3) XDs Pistol (Again... When in stock and a decent deal... No crazy mark up.)

4) Mossberg Jerry Miculek 930 (When I can find one in stock...)

5) 4 Stripped Spikes Lowers (Will build 3 later and one pistol soon... bought these yesterday), 2 BCG's, and Other Spare Parts.

6) Another 2K .223 Ammo, 2K of 9mm, and 2K 45 ACP. (Will continue stocking this up as time goes on... No reason to buy a huge amount now that I can think of.)

7) I want to buy a 1911... But whats a good 1911 for a guy who has no experience with anything other than Polymer guns really?... Any input? Kinda want something I can tinker with without worrying about trashing a really high dollar or rare gun.

You're a funny guy..... I am moving and have to pay somebody to move the Fatboy. It is just a little too much for me to feel comfortable moving even with a few stout (ok ok hefty) coworkers.

I looked at the Gaffunder safes for a little bit but I am afraid without a footing directly below it you would crack a 4" floor.

If I ever end up with a couple machine guns I will go ahead and buy one. Look at the "F" rate safes. They are incredibly well constructed. The website used to rate them at TL-30 but I can't seem to find that anymore. May have to look at another manufacturer.

This topic is relevant to an issue I am having as well.

The same situation applies to me, but my garage is in my basement. Is there any way to secure a safe in a basement or is there a special kind of safe that would be ideal for use in that type of area? I looked at the Fatboy link, but I would not need a safe that holds 48 guns. Something that would hold about 6ish rifles and maybe 5-6 handguns and room for some ammo cans.

Yep. My next safe is a Graffunder. I'll be getting it as soon as we move into the new house. It will be going onto a section of concrete that is 12" thick and rebar and fiber reinforced. The safe is about $16k not including the cost of delivery/installation. Not cheap, but peace of mind is worth it.

Long range package: bolt action 308, AICS stock, nice scope :)

That's my next build.

ETA: and don't worry about messing up a 1911. My first... two actually, were Ed Browns.

You can bolt the safe to the floor or floor and wall. A big safe is going to be hard for a thief to move.. But I'm sure there are some out there that will work at trying to steal one. I've got the big Fatboy style and I love it. If you get one make sure you put something under it to keep it from rusting. I have 4x4's cut to the length and width painted the color of the safe. This allows air movement under the safe preventing it from rusting. It is money well spent to protect not only my guns but other items too. Just my .02 cents..

Doesn't every gun guy need at least one good double action revolver in 357 or 44 Mag? A Colt, Smith & Wesson or a Ruger. I love 'em ––- nice to shoot, accurate and no searching for/picking up brass. Maybe I'm just getting old!
