Ok, I've read this list over multiple times provided by the USCCA .. and to the LEOs on the list,
is this just a scare tactic to drum up business? do I need to have a lawyer on retainer?
Should I really tell the responding officer that I acted in self-defense and will wait for my attorney before I say anything else?

I think if I something should happen in my own home and it's apparent that the guy on the floor doesn't belong there and I'm not armed and threatening when
the officers arrive, there shouldn't be a problem.

Am I correct in this?

No but when you need one on short notice is a lousy time to go researching the subject of who is out there.  It is better to know who, locally, is a criminal defense attorney, skilled in affirmative defense (self defense) cases.  When traveling, my local Birmingham attorney is the person who is going to find the attorney where I am if I ever need one, but the associations have vetted lists of locals in many cases

yes, imo, or nothing at all, my attorney is the one who is going to go tell them my side of the story and I may never talk to them

no, you are wrong, the responding officers don't know any of that and won't assume any of that, for all they know the dead person on your floor is your personal drug dealer come to make a home delivery and you decided to cap him today....they are going to do a full investigation, if those are the true circumstances you will probably come out just fine, but if you in an full adrenalized state go blabbering and say things you should not you could talk yourself into a manslaughter trial which you would probably still win $50K later

Do some reasearch, read the most recent Masad Ayoob and Andrew Branca books on this subject, I have studied with both men and taken classes from them, they will open your eyes on the subject a bit.

I read somewhere that the average lawyer's fees for a justifiable homicide was $25,000 but then again, your results may vary.
