Little known fact but the large hangars that you see on the left going into the airport were built in the 40s and served as a Bechtel-McCone facility designed to modify aircraft for specific and varying uses.  By he end of WWII the Birmingham plant had modified 49% of all Boing B-29s in production.

Yup.  Most recently Kaiser Aircraft was in that facility doing c-130 retrofits and Blackhawk work.

Snapped this this evening. Hate that I didn't see it fly, but it made for an awesome pic. Not bad for something taken with an iThingy.
