Beginning on Jan. 30, the sheriff's office will offer free firearms training at the training center near Fultondale. Classes will be held on the last Saturday of the month between 8:00 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The class will cover personal safety, firearms safety, and the fundamentals of shooting, authorities said. There will be a question and answer session which will include a discussion about state carry laws. The training also includes a live-fire range session.
The sheriff's office in the past has held similar training, but not to this extent. "We have always been advocates of our citizens having the equipment and training to help insure their personal safety. That has never been more important with the challenges we face in the world we live in now,'' Sheriff Mike Hale said. "Having said that, we want them to know how to handle and store a weapon safely and with confidence. To assist with that we are happy to announce this free training and hope everyone will recognize the importance and take advantage of it."

I attended one of their citizen basic handguns classes a few years back.
