The Pinhoti trail runs through the Talladega National Forest and is a good hiking trail; you can camp virtually anywhere in the forest.  I've hiked many parts of it south of Cheaha Mountain and there are rarely other people.  There are also ATV trails; I've never used them but I sometimes hear dirt bikes on them.  Cheaha State Park has regular state parks stuff to do.

http://www.cheahatrailriders.com/kentuck.html  Up in the TNF.

http://www.toptrails.net/ In Talladega.  Site is a decommissioned munitions storage facility. Cool place.

Hiking trails.  A lot in the TNF.  I would advise Pinhoti also.  Hiked up there a lot.  Just PM me for more details if you need.  I know some short loops and yoyo day hikes or some more involved hikes for overnighters.

If you are set up for rock crawling or rock bouncing Choccolocco Mountain up the road in Jacksonville is a pretty awesome place to off road.

I'm traveling with my wife and 3 y/o boy . So I can only do some easy trails . I'll be carrying my boy for a few miles. My Toyota Tacoma is 4x4 but stock . No Rick crawling for but would love just to explore some trails .

If you're into rafting, head down Highway 77 going towards Ashland until you see the sign that says Shepherd Branch Shooting Complex. Turn there and follow the dirt road, the creek area will be a couple of miles past the shooting range. Locals call it Rob Roy, you can float down to the old Waldo Covered bridge.
