Last time we went down 280 through Columbus and South Georgia. Ended up taking the wrong route and a long detour. My wife's dad says 20 to atl and then 75 all the way down as long as we don't hit atl during bad traffic. Anybody else have a better idea? I'd rather do interstate the whole way but my wife's friend wants us to take a bunch of back roads. Will be traveling at night if that makes a difference.

I drive on I-65 until I hit I-10 in Marianna, then I75 until you hit the left branch for Orlando (FL turnpike).  Easy peasy.  The trip is about 9 1/2 hours.

I-65 veers off to the west past Montgomery so you'll be going in the wrong direction until you hit I-10 again. I would recommend I-20 to I-285 to I-75. Just try and time your route through Atlanta to make sure you don't go around rush hour.

I used to take I-10 off of I-65, but 10 is the most boring drive I have ever had to endure.  I'd rather tak 20 to ATL then 75 south.

I65 to Montgomery.  US-231 to Marianna, FL.  I10 to I75 to Orlando.

US-231 is 4 lane the entire route and is mostly 65 mph.  A few towns to go through but it isn't too bad.

I agree it isn't too bad of a drive, FTR (I go that way heading to Dothan or PCB), I just prefer Interstate all the way (or as much as possible) when it is an option.

True, but the traps have those "Speed Limit Strictly Enforced" signs .  I go that way because I am usually going into GA on US84 and 65 would be out of the way.

280 to 520 merging on to 75 at Tifton.  It's 4 lane all the way on 280/520 and much of it you can run 65+mph.  There are a couple of towns that will drop you down to 45 for a couple of miles.  You will make up for lost speed by the amount of mileage you save.  You save a good 50 miles that way over 20/75.  Driving down 280/520 to Tifton is very similar to driving down 280 from Bham to Auburn.  Good stretches of nothing you can run 70+ and some spots you need to slow down at near towns.

This is the route I would take as well.  231 is a good road and little traffic except through Dothan.

This is the route I used to to take to get my parents house in Winter Park.  The only real speed traps are south of Al/FL border until you get to I-10, this it's easy driving.  Just pay attention to the signs and drive accordingly.

Good luck!

I live S Shelby.

We take I-65 S to 231 in Montgomery, 231 to I-10, I-10E over. How we go South from there is usually a tossup, as we have family in Jax.

Driving at night you will save some time over I-65 all the way down to I-10.

That I-65 stretch from Montgomery to Mobile is one of the most boring stretches of Interstate I have travelled.
