We will be traveling to Chattanooga for a wedding this fall, and are looking for recommendations on interesting things to see along I-59.  This will be our first time through this part of your beautiful state...

And be sure to drive really, really fast through the Ft Payne area so Moonjumper knows it's you. That'll get his attention.

Don;t have much to add other than eat at New Moon;s or Dreamland for BBQ in Tuscaloosa. Also, Moundville State Park ( Indian burial mounds ) Is about 12 miles south of Tuscaloosa on Hwy 69 pretty neat if you;re in to history.

Mentone has a quaint little 1800's style downtown shopping "mall." It's a bunch of tiny little shops with a decent restaurant -- if you're into that kinda thing. My wife and I enjoy a leisurely drive out there every once in a while. It's pretty scenic.

Full Moon Bar-B-Que
Dreamland Bar-B-Que
Moundville Archaeological Park

Hopefully we'll be passing through Tuscaloosa around lunch or dinner time one direction or the other.

I see firearms are prohibited at Moundville Archaeological Park, does that include the parking areas?

Mentone Log Cabin Village
Moonlight Bistro

I should have mentioned we'll have a 20 lb dog along for the ride, makes dining out more of a challenge...

Be sure to go through Ft. Payne and have your picture made with the Alabama Band statues.  You don't have a hair if you don't post them here.

Didn't stop me.  You'll probably see one employee at the front office when you pay admission.  Other than that you probably won't see many other people at all, unless you go to the museum.

From the University of Alabama website:

Persons on campus and in violation of University policy are trespassers and may be dealt with accordingly, including, but not limited to, being removed from campus and receiving a written directive to remain off campus.

Nearly a mandatory stop.  Second be The Strand.  Is Matt's mom, uncle, and his grandparents.  Bonanza burger is worth a try and the shakes are great.  Friday is steak night.  If you stop in F.P. give some of us a holler a bit in advance and hopefully we can give you more ideas.

There are so many good small places around here to try.  If I'm off I rarely ever go to a chain restaurant.

Large chicken finger plate, double Jos, sweet tea.  Sometimes I'll shake things up with some pulled meat, but that's a staple.

We should all set a date / time where we meet up for an informal ARF pig-out in Ft Payne or some such place. I'm only 20-25 miles away.

MJ can set up a police escort so we look impotent (yeah... I know it's spelled wrong, but that's how we say it).

Medicine can fix that nowadays.  But yeah we do need to do a NE AL get together.

ETA, Heard Vintage 1889 is outstanding in FP.  Tried it yet HeyCoach?

Unless medicine can't fix it, then you'll have a sad life.

MJ, I haven't tried it yet.  Too busy actually working.

Couple spots could be a very good comparison.  Are some great places around Birmingham but other than Hoover Tactical I run out of quick suggestions for there.  And sorry for the thread high jack.
