Entrance to the penthouse.

Looking in from the perch end.

From the egg gathering end.  No boxes yet and I still have work to do on it obviously.

And the beginning of the flock.  The pen will end up being about a 12 x 15 area.  Just tried to get enough done to get them out of my dining room.

Not today.  Kids were screaming for me to hurry so we could go swimming.  Try to get them tomorrow and hopefully get the run finished too.

You can see the edge of the garden right past the chickens in the last picture.

Need to get them a good food and water bucket now and fence up the run for them.  Should be done after that. For now.

The water design I used up until this year is a good one, and the one I'm using now is just a bucket with nipples in the bottom.

The feeder design is still going strong, and I wouldn't trade it for a commercial feeder for nothin.

I stole this one from TRG some years ago.

Looking good.  If mine comes up I'll add pics.  Wife did most of the planting and this is her first garden.  I'm hopeful but I'm going to have to put in a lot of work in it.  She had an add attack and didn't follow all of my suggestions.  Not real sure how it is going to do

Plumbers and similar folk....

I need more water pressure. The problem is that there is a small line coming from the water main.

Would it make more sense to install a cistern and a pump? The cost of running 500 yards of larger line would probably be insane, and I figure the cistern would make a nice prep backup in case the water is off.

Eventually we plan to have a deep well put in.

I think it could work.  Or if nothing else get some barrels and put them up the hill from it.  Fill the barrels and basically network them together.   Then run your garden line from the bottom one.  Granted by the time I got done building it you could probably just add the bigger line from the meter.  I might have a tendency to overdo stuff a bit

I spent my early years working around heavy equipment.  As such I think everything should be able to support a tri axle dump truck.  How one would end up in a chicken house I don't know but it just might hold it

I think you could do it with cinder blocks on a concrete pad.  Tie all together with rebar and concrete in the block.  Spray inside with rhino liner and plumb a pipe out the bottom.   Makes sense in my head and other than the rhino lining should be able to do by yourself.   Fill it with your water hose from the house since you aren't as concerned about speed on filling it up.

Might even backfill against it to add further support from blowout if the pressure got too much.

I think I want to place it between the water meter and the house.

Yea, they're upside down. ZFG, they're anchored.

If you think it's too crowded on the maters I can move two to another box, I still have 1.5 of them free and waiting on the peas to sprout.

Not yet! I'm expecting the rain to start today or tonight.

I'm moving those two maters this weekend if I can get a break in the rain.

I'm also going to be putting the matting down while I'm at it.

Garden has been fixed.

Pics in a few minutes.

The wife also found a 5' box blade for $250. Tractor don't run, but for that price, I'll stick it in the shed.

Backstory on the upside down tomato plant cages.

When the raised beds were originally installed, the beds were only 6" deep, and I didn't till under, so there was hard compacted rock under it. The cages didn't have enough depth to stand on their own. So... like any bud light drinking redneck from AL, I flipped them over, and steaked them in.

I forgot that wasn't necessary this year.

I'm cheap. Fill with 5" water, soak and hose out. Repeat a few times over the week and it's done. Keep in mind that I bought mine 5 years ago. Price and availability may not be the same.

Or you can buy the syrup ones from Coke or Buffalo Rock.
