No real input as I'm just a temp resident of Indiana, but not in Orange county-have been here for a year and the job will move me out of state next year.
That area(Orange County) you're looking at is kind of scenic for the stereotypes of the Midwest. I've driven through there a couple times, so that is the extent of my knowledge. Midways between Evansville/I69 and Louisville/I65. Decent little sets of rolling hills, water, etc. Brown County is scenic as well with a lot of job opportunities likely in Columbus, IN with Cummins and a bunch of other stuff.
Indiana has good gun laws with lifetime permits if that is something you may need. No idea of land prices or schools, but I know some people renting decent sized yards in Nashville area and some folks that have bought on the east side of I 65.
