I hope not.  I also hope that they don't exclude .300BLK.  I've heard from a couple non-AR15-owning coworkers that they might buy an AR15 if it is a legal cartridge for hunting.

More gun owners with EBRs is always a good thing.

I agree, patience is a virgin.  After a few years of nothing bad happening I think they will open deer season to all rifle calibers like they wanted to last year.

I doubt it.  Tell them to build a pistol.

Clarification posted:

Here

Holy cow.  .243 and .308 bullets and nothing else.

Here's most of it:

The new legal cartridges include, but are not limited to, the .243 Winchester, .30-30 Winchester, .300 AAC Blackout, and .30-06 Springfield. Additional requirements are:

• The rifle must have a barrel length of at least 16 inches
• The rifle cartridges must have a cartridge case length of least 1.16 inches
• The rifle cartridge must fire a bullet with a diameter that is
   o .243 inches (or 6 mm); or
   o .308 inches (or 7.62 mm)
• No cartridges with a bullet diameter between .243 and .308 are legal (such as the .270 Winchester)
• A hunter may not possess more than 10 such cartridges while in the field

Rifles with pistol cartridges that have been allowed in previous years may still be used to hunt deer on both private and public land.

Additional cartridges that are legal under HEA 1231 include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 6mm-06
• 6mm BR Remington
• 6mm PPC
• 6mm Remington
• .240 Weatherby
• .243 Winchester
• .243 Winchester Super Short Magnum
• .30 Carbine
• .30 Herrett
• .30 Remington AR
• .30-06 Springfield
• .30-30 Winchester
• .30-40 Krag
• .300 AAC Blackout (.300 Whisper)
• .300 H&H Magnum
• .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum
• .300 Savage
• .300 Weatherby Magnum
• .300 Winchester Magnum
• .300 Winchester Short Magnum
• .300 Remington Ultra Magnum
• .308 Marlin
• .308 Winchester
• 7.62x39mm
• 7.62x54mmR

There are other cartridges that meet the law’s specifications, and there are others that do not. A partial list of cartridges that are not allowed under HEA 1231 includes the .270 Winchester, .38-55 Winchester, .444 Marlin, and .45-70 Government.

Using a M1 Carbine would be pretty neat.

I can't use my .270 so I guess I now have a reason to buy a .300 win mag.

It seems the idea was to limit it to 5 cartridges but in typical government fashion the idiots were so clueless they screwed that up and now you have this list.

Does this mean that you can use an ar-10 with a 5 round mag?

The way I read it, you can use an AR-10 with a 30 round mag, as long as it's shooting one of those cartridges and you only have 10 rounds on you.  It doesn't say anything about mag size.

Is 6mm remington considered 6.8spc??????? plz plz plz
Link Posted: 4/6/2016 4:48:02 PM EDT
[#18]
No it is not.  The 6mm Remington is .243 caliber and is the same cartridge as the .244 Remington (different barrel twist).  The 6.8 is not .243/6mm or .308/7.62 caliber so it is not allowed.  Can you imagine the poor game warden trying to enforce these laws.
However, I am really glad this is happening.
IMO when the DNR tried to get almost all rifles in last year and it was voted down, they came up with this plan.  And once it is in place for 4 years and not a bunch of stupid stuff happens, we'll see them open it up to almost all rifle rounds like they wanted to last year.  We just need to pipe down and bide or time.  It's coming.

And they say, "includes but not limited to..." so there you have it, pretty much any .243/6mm or any .308/7.62 cartridge.  That means my .30 HRT is in, the 6.5 x 43 and .338 GRRR is not.

The amount of derp I've all ready heard about this new law is amazing.

Had a guy tell me today that the new law is for single shots only and no lever action, bolts, or semi autos are allowed. I said could you show me that in the law that was signed in. He, of course, couldn't find it or admit he was full of it.

I will just keep using the 458 Socom until I can use my 6.8spc.

The DNR did not introduce this bill.  It came from a state legislator.  If it had gone through the best available channels like last year it would not have passed.  Instead it was brought about by a legislator and most hunters had no clue it was on the table until it was too late to comment or notify their legislator.

I see both sides of the argument, but I also know how sparse the deer herd is where I live due to overhunting.  This will absolutely do more damage.

Small update:

One of my coworkers walked in last week with a BCI stripped lower and asked, "what else do I need?"  He ended up buying a stock kit from Bravo Company, as well as an Aero Precision LPK and complete upper in .300BLK.  He isn't sure which way he wants to go with optics yet, but we're working on it.  I'm going to lend him a couple of mine to see what he likes most.

One more Hoosier with an EBR!

edit: he's asking about suppressors now.  We've got another one on our side!
