There aren't a lot of kayaking and canoeing shops in southern Indiana, but there is one in Jasper. They may be able to put you in touch with a real local club or enthusiast, who knows more about that stretch of river.

I work with a guy who gets together with a large group of friends many times in the summer and fall and canoes down White River, but I think they stay above the dam. I'll check with him.

Okay, here's my buddy's reply:
We just took that trip three weekends ago. It was like 23 miles. No snags and the most shallow spot was through Chase Riffle and no one hit bottom at all. Probably the most beautiful section of the White River! Saw like 7 eagles too!" |

There is a bunch of beaver sign on the river there below the dam, so might take just make a trapping expedition down the river later this month |
