...coming from next door, but not familiar w/ IN laws, so was hoping to soak up as much as possible

I looked over handgunlaw.us, ...my takeaways:
- no duty to notify
- restaurant carry = yes?
- carry not permitted on riverboat casinos
- carry not permitted in ohio falls state park
- open carry not permitted unless have CHL?
- stay out of schools, courthouses, daycare,

...now, there also was something about carrying under your home state's CHL laws???

i'm not sure i'm understanding the latter...

example: in OH, we do have "duty to notify", ...but we have very lenient (i.e. good, no 50% limitation, etc) restaurant carry....

Yeah, you are supposed to follow the laws of the State that issued the license as well. ie if that State has a law you can't carry in church then you can't carry in church here either even though IN has no such law. Now realistically is that going to be an issue - heck most LEO's don't even know about that law let alone the laws of other States. And yep, it is really stupid.

Indiana is one of the most pro-gun states around.  Use your head and a bit of common sense and you'll be fine.

Indiana honors all other states carry permits (there is a requirement to follow the issuer states rules while in Indiana; but no one is going to know or care about rules in your home state).

You can open carry or conceal;  the Indiana handgun license does not specify type of carry.

Loaded/unloaded rifles and shotguns can be carried/kept in vehicle (no permit required unless it has a pistol grip; basically; then you would need a handgun license).

Do not carry at:
K-12 schools
Licensed Day cares
Riverboat Casino's (on the boat itself)
State Fair Grounds (only during state fair)
Courthouses
Maritime property.

You can carry at state parks.  You are not supposed to carry at ACOE property (like falls of the Ohio).

No duty to inform.  You can carry in bars, restaurants.

Only state law on Firearms, ammo and accessories as of the 2011 pre-emption law (no locals can make laws more restrictive than the state).

To add to this:

Courthouses are only off-limits if the locality restricts it (that is one area that the preemption law permitted localities to regulate). IIRC there are some courthouse in Indiana where it is still legal to carry in to the courthouse but most, if not all, of those restrict carrying in the courtroom itself.

Long-gun carry is gtg without permit loaded or unloaded.

Permit/license required for all hand-gun carry unless it is cased/locked in the trunk.

"No-Guns" signs do not carry the weight of law but if you are asked to leave and refuse you can be charged for trespass.

Don't bring short-barrel shotguns (SBS is the only Title II not allowed)...

Carry at public gatherings any/all public buildings is unregulated/not-restricted unless those buildings are privately run etc...

No restrictions on carrying in bars etc, no restrictions on drinking while carrying either but I encourage you to drink responsibly and if you cannot handle yourself well after having a few drinks then don't carry...
