THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Low and behold I was enlightened what a REAL Maryland blue crab crabcake was supposed to be! Now that I have been ruined... I cannot look at another crabcake down here. One of the guys up there that I met with recommended that I order some frozen crabcakes from some pizza joint that he goes to. He said he was almost ashamed to admit it as a born and raised Marylander that 1 you could get good crabcakes at a pizza joint, but 2. you could order them already made and frozen then have them shipped and cook them at home. He hung his head when he said they REALLY where almost as good as fresh. Now some time has gone by and I have lost the contact info of said pizza joint. I want some for real crabcakes. Can any of you guys point me in the direction of some place I can order REAL crabcakes frozen? |

Everyone is going to have their preference, but you can try G&M Seafood, from the Baltimore area. I have purchased these frozen to cook at home when we had out of town company. Thaw them then lightly pan fry in a little light olive oil.

They pass muster, lots of lump meat, filler is good but not overpowering. Blue crabs aint cheap. |

dont buy ready made crab cakes, make your own. you can buy crab meat online. for crab cakes you dont want it to be all "lump" crab meat, you want a mix. when the wife gets home i will see what she uses in hers.

Real cakes aren't cheap because they're real crab, not imitation crab and bread crumb filler. Can't help you with mail order. Probably better to roll your own.

My vote is for G&M also. So dont listen to the catch uour own/make your own crowd if you dont know what youre doing rhey wont come out good G&M will ship anywhere When you get rhem, just broil until brow/ golden and then squeeze a bit of lemon on them yes, i am a crab snob I used to catch them all the time as a kid We would walk down to the piers and catch rhem in the aftwr oon then have them ror dinner By the way, the rusty scupper isn't all that.

Having been raised on the South River and spent most of my life on and around the bay, I can tell you that Stoney's in Solomons Island will make you cry they are so good.

+1 for G&M. Good quality and they are almost the size of a softball.
Edit: Talking about the cakes ordered at their restaurant. Sorry, never mail ordered anything from them. |

The ones they ship are just like the restaurant. It was the one thing my brother requested from home when he went to Buds training in San Diego, my mother sent him dozens for him and his teammates he said they came in perfect on dry ice.

I haven't had them (allergic to shell fish) but know of lots of people that speak highly of them. I live 20 min from Box Hill Pizzeria, and 5 min from their sister restaurant Riverside Pizzeria. Coming from someone who has had literally thousands of crab cakes in his lifetime, they are two of the best out there. I do make my own which are very good, but prefer those two. Angelina's was around when I was growing up in the Hamilton Area. They were the best around hands down. Their restaurant on the corner of Harford Road and Rosalie Avenue is long gone, but their original recipe lives on. If you want a crab cake that will knock the socks off of anyone including a Maryland native, buy these with confidence. ETA...I have asked about the crab cakes on menu's in out of state restaurants when I see that they say "Maryland Style" The wait staff will usually try to point me in another direction when I tell them where I am from. |

Never had a frozen crab cake that was worth a damn. G&M makes a fine crab cake but I have always had them fresh and not frozen so I don't know. Many recipes are online. I always enjoy rolling my own from fresh or canned crab meat.
Most recipes contain a variation of bread crumbs. mayo , mustard powder and of course Old Bay seasoning. Seems everybody has their own secret ingredient that is treated like the KFC 11 herbs and spices. |

Until you find a recipe you really like I recommend using the Old Bay crab cake mix. It's actually quite good.
Just add the mix, the amount of mayo it says, and a pound of fresh crab meat. If someone would be nice enough to post their family recipe, that would be great. And Box Hill Pizzeria is great for crabcakes. I went there for lunch one day and I'd be willing to bet they did almost $2,000 in business in the 45min I was there. |
