Hi,  Could anyone recommend any locations to do some longer range shooting?  I just put together a Mk12, and I really want to see what it can do.  Am I really restricted to gun clubs and private ranges?  If so, does anyone recommend one in/around the Twin Cities area?

I grew up in Arizona, and we'd just go shooting in the desert, so all of the trees everywhere and the paucity of public land is kinda foreign to me.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer completely, but it seems there are clubs that have long range shooting.  Oakdale has some lanes that shoot 200 meters.

Not sure about public ranges, but I went to Forest Lake Sportsmen's Club once and shot out to 400yd.  Oakdale and Del-Tone are both 200yd as mentioned.

The longest public range I know of is caribou in Le Seur, goes out to 500-520ish depending what end of the firing line you're on.  Pretty lame they charge you per gun, but I guess if it's our only option to shoot at anything over 200 it is what it is.

Public Ranges have been mentioned.

Long Range Club
Gopher Rifle and Revolver 1000 yds

Mid Range Clubs
Faribault - Kilkenny 600 (but IRC it is down for reconstruction) but membership is not all that bad.....
Northstar - Red Wing 600
Elk River Sportsman - Elk River 600
United Sportsman - Duluth 500
Forest Lake - Forest Lake 400
Minneapolis Rifle / Minnetonka Game and Fish goes out  400yds?

Shorter ranges
Horse and Hunt Prior Lake
Minnetonka Sporstman Mound
Oakdale
Rainbow Sportsman Cokato
Gopher Campfire Hutch

But we all know from the resident whiners here they just want to shoot and not have to do anything to help the club out! Effing lazy people!

Then we come to the shooter themselves

Is their gun set up with proper scope mount and is the scope aligned properly?

Is their scope capable of having enough elevation and windage to shoot at distance?  Is their scope mount with built in elevation?
Does the shooter have good information on their ammo and is it intended for long distance shooting?  You should have a drop and windage chart for the gun based on actual chrono information?

No range wants bullets leaving the property.  They want to be good neighbors!  You need to be able to take into account wind, the light, and mirage conditions when shooting long distance.

You almost need three people to go shooting a spotter and someone in the target pits to mark the target.

Even if you do not have an F class gun, you could have signed up and shoot Monday Nights if you wanted gain practice with your gun?

Why do you always act like you're the only one who has ever sent a projectile down range? If you have the information the OP asked for, why don't you just post it? Or don't post at all.

I'll bet your a hoot to be around. People like you are the reason more folks don't join gun clubs. Cranky, uptight horse's ass.

Hi rn22723, I have an SKS that's been modified with a scope on the receiver cover.  What clubs would be best for me to join so I could get some long range training in?  Thanks in advance.

Seriously, thanks for the list.  I wish I had the time to get into long range shooting (to include reloading and travel).  Maybe when I retire.
