I may be moving down to the cities (South part of the cities) for a new job. Being from "up north", finding a range was never a problem. What are the prospects for shooting (rifle, pistol, sporting clays) in the cities?

I shoot at Oakdale Gun Club, just east of St. Paul. It's only a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Minneapolis. Now's a good time to get on the waiting list, since membership renewals (and cancellations) are coming up at the end of the year, and spots will probably be opening up.

+1 for Oakdale. I don't believe there's anything better as close. 25, 50, 100, and 200 yd rifle ranges and a 10 yd handgun range. Trap, but no skeet or SC.

Burnsville Pistol Range is a popular indoor range in the south metro. Despite their name, they do have a rifle bay that goes out to 50 yds (actually 46): http://www.bvpistol.com

You won't hear anything unless a spot opens up, and then only around the time of membership renewals. The soonest you'll hear anything is in February; I got my notice on the 2nd, and attended the new member orientation on the 22nd.

That is, unless you want to shoot an AR pistol. B'ville pistol range does not allow AR pistols. Generally, I've found their ownership to be less than pleasant.

The Minnesota horse and hunt club offers everything you asked for. Great trap and sporting clays, pistol range and rifle range. Membership is a little pricey though.
