Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake. The rifle and pistol ranges are member only though. They have a 300 yard and 75ish yard range for rifles and I'd guess maybe 10 yard long pistol range. All outdoor ranges, it's where I got my membership and I love it, guests shoot for free with a member as well so it's great if you have a group you like to shoot with, Plus a range membership gets you discounted sporting clays if that's something you're in to.
A little further south in Le Seur you have Caribou. They're open to the public and have a nice 500 yard range. It's nice if you want to stretch the rifles out a bit, but they charge like 25-30 bucks per person and then try to charge 5 bucks a gun. At least last time I was there in the fall that's how it went. But that is the longest range I know of in the area if that's more important to you. Those are the two I've shot at maybe somebody else knows of others. |

If you're willing to push west a bit, Gopher Campfire is a bit east and north of Hutchinson...membership is $40 a year and it's got a pretty decent range layout. It's right off of Lake Byron.

Horse and Hunt in Prior Lake sounds like it would be about perfect for what I'm looking for, do you know that they get for a membership and are they open year round?
Doesn't seem like there is a lot of other options in that area, I guess I've been spoiled for a while. A buddy of mine that recently moved away had a 300yd set up in his back yard. I figured there would be at least a little set up like the one by Green Isle with a target stick and a picnic table but I haven't been able to find anything. |

Horse and Hunt charges $350 a year for the range, which seems a bit steep, but if you shoot weekly like I do it really is worth it to have a private range you can go to pretty much anytime and have the range to yourself. Yes they are open year round and the only time the rifle ranges are closed is when they have an event going on the hunting land which is only a couple weekends a year from what they told me. This last weekend was the only time I couldn't get out to shoot since I got my membership in January because they had some national pheasant hunt going on.
Caribou is $107 for a range membership which really only get's you $15 off each time you shoot, so unless you lie about how many guns you're bringing you could still be spending 20-30 bucks a time even as a member + your guests have to pay full price at Caribou while guests shoot for free at H&H. Don't get me wrong it's a nice range, but for myself H&H is a 10 minute drive so the gas I save alone is worth the steeper membership cost since I get out so much more. If you want to shoot as often as possible I'd say go horse and hunt, If you're only going to shoot once a month then maybe Caribou might be more appealing for the added length on the range. Check them both out and see which one you like, H&H will give you a tour of the ranges and facilities if you give them a call and tell them you're interested in a membership, and Caribou is public so you can swing down there pretty much anytime but it is best to call ahead cause sometimes they have hunters on the land behind the range. |
