Just about anywhere on the north shore is a winner

My sons and I camped at Tettegouche state park near Silver Bay last summer, it was one of the nicest state parks we have stayed at. We had a walk in site that was pretty secluded, and the drive in sites looked like they had plenty of privacy too. We like camping on the north shore during the hot summer months because the temperature is usually quite a bit cooler than the rest of the state.

St Croix River between Taylors Falls and Osceola. There are only a few designated spots to camp and you do have to register at the office in Osceola. Beyond that, it's fantastic. A boat of some sort is required to get to the camping spots however.

Any of the state parks on the north shore. In order of south to north.

If you like to fish, Voyagers Nat'l park. Boat in to a secluded Island campsite. Power boats are allowed but no jet skis. Campsites have a picnic table, fire ring, bear boxes, tent pads and a toilet. Take the boat up to the old whorehouse at Kettle Falls for lunch (right where Rainy lake and Namakin lake meet) and you look south into Canada and the river flows North. Sorta neat.

all of these are good suggestions.

I'm going to toss out another one for car camping. Amnicon State Park in Wisconsin. Place is great for taking newbies car camping, or even a short walk in. It's only 8 miles outside of Superior, so it's close if you forgot supplies, the hiking trails are nice, but not strenuous if you have children or a lack of desire to do anything serious. It's also fairly quiet, which has always surprised me. I've been there many many times over the past 8 years, even over memorial day. It's always a pleasant time.
Ever get the feeling ideals can't take us where we need to go?

Tettegouche and McCarthy Beach are two of my favorites; but, as was already stated, anywhere along the North Shore is great.

Seriously, McCarthy beach?

I guess I don't consider it a good place as its always packed, especially with kids, and it's only 20 minutes from me. But the nice part is you have all the other lakes in the chain to go to instead of being stuck on one. And they all have good fishing if you know where to go. My friend has a cabin on south sturgeon and he's pulled some nice walleyes in the 26-30" range out over the years, seems he always hammers the crappies on any of those lakes too, anyway I like quieter camping spots, close to atv trails, but there staying a secret for now, sorry!

I should mention that I was probably one of those kids.

My family and I had been going there for years and we always tucked ourselves in the very back on the gravel road, site 50 I believe. It was always seemed pretty secluded for us, but we were probably the ones making the noise. Even ended up in the news once during a 4th of July incident... We also had a friend that lived in a cabin on Sturgeon and would "commandeer" his boat from time to time. I think I liked it because it had a great swimming beach too, since I was a tad shorter back then.

Camping...always a favorite

But I've found myself "camping" in the damnedest of places. Basements of unlocked churches in Middle-of-Nowhere, North Dakota is always a favorite. You just need to sleep in a place not in direct contact with the floors because they're COLD!

Sounds like you've been there, done that AND have the tee-shirt. If you have a minute, would you mind emailing me a few details?
