Louisville Mayor, Greg Fischer, says that "there is little appetite at the state level to give cities the power to regulate guns." Good, because we know that if they could, Louisville would ban guns entirely. Why is it that when some criminal uses a gun illegally people like Mayor Fischer will always try to punish the people that didn't do it? There were 80,000 gun owners in Louisville for the NRA convention. All of these people were gun owners and most were carrying guns the entire weekend. There was not one shooting by any of them. There was not even a single arrest for anything for these people, yet Mayor Fischer thinks that passing new laws that would restrict these people's access to guns would make things better. There was one quote from mayor Fischer's comments that was positive. Rather that seeking new local gun regulations, however, Fischer said, "current gun laws need to be enforced". Yes, that's right Mayor. He should have stopped right there, but then he went on to add, "Metro Police and federal agencies are looking into whether Louisville gun dealers are conducting proper background checks." What!! Does Mayor Fischer think that the 15 year old gangbangers in the West End are buying their guns at a gun store!!! What a maroon!!

But he reiterated that the city cannot make laws stricter than state law allows thanks to a measure that passed four years ago

Yes, that is what he said, but it is not quite true. No city in Ky. can make ANY gun laws, unless that law has been specifically authorized by the General Assembly. This means that they can't even make a gun law that is word for word what the state law says, without specific authority to do so. What the state has done is prohibit cities and counties from ALL gun legislation and then (in paragraph 7 of KRS 65.870) given a little bit of that authority back, but only when and if they give them specific permission in some area, they can do that, but only that. The only authority that has been given to cities and counties is for laws prohibiting the "discharge" of a firearm and the carrying of concealed weapons in city/county buildings, with the proper ordinance. That's it. Here is the state statute(KRS 65.870, notice paragraph 7):   http://www.lrc.ky.gov/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40556

Remember some of us still live here! :D

State law is a good barrier but it is important to keep up both positive outreach and the harder fights in Louisville and Lexington. They're the most liberal places in the state and the most populous. We've got a huge moat built up but a few years of wonky elections and urban power and ... well shit can go sideways for the whole Commonwealth.

To the greatest extent possible, state legislatures in conservative states need to pass laws that jam it up the ass of liberal cities in their states. I WANT legislators who vote "yes" on antigun laws to go to fucking jail.

This is EXACTLY how it should be. Cities are full of AIDS.

Should've added that in the 2nd Amendment that any person who tries to make law against the 2nd amendment should be tried for treason.
