Just found this article on Yahoo news. Don't be fooled by the TV ads. Grimes is not "pro-gun". I'm no McConnell fan, but Grimes will hurt the 2A, he won't. McConnell needs replaced with a conservative candidate, not a more liberal one.
From the article: FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A week after running a dramatic TV ad in which Alison Lundergan Grimes said she disagreed with President Barack Obama on guns, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate told a radio interviewer Thursday she would work to close a loophole that allows private gun owners to sell guns at gun shows without a background check
"I believe it is worth having the discussion to actually work to close the gun show loophole that we see," Grimes told Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio in a lengthy interview broadcast throughout the state. "You shouldn't have different standards when you go to a gun store versus gun shows." View Quote link to article: http://news.yahoo.com/grimes-opposes-gun-show-loophole-205136436--election.html |

As much as I don't want to I'll be voting for Mitch this time around. The whole lesser of two evils thing.
|

Finally! Some actual policy and platform info.
Both Grimes and McConnell keep running this "go team!" crap on TV and Facebook and its pissing me off. She should make a speech about this at Mt. Sterling Court Days and see what the voters think of it. |

I can't bring myself to vote for evil so I'll be casting a ballot for Libertarian David Patterson. Be damned with the Uniparty. Grimes is nothing more then a Democrat McConnell. Just my two cents.

Jeep29 is right, Libertarians are winning, but not big races and only a few places. What you get when you vote for a Libertarian is a strong message. 5-10% of people are willing to vote for a Libertarian, that sends a signal to whomever wins that they might want to support some libertarian leaning issues. http://www.lex18.com/news/mcconnell-grimes-differ-on-marijuana Patterson wasn't interviewed for this article but he supports legalization. Compare that to Mitch who is outright opposed to any weed, but at least he comes out and says it straight up. Grimes "favors having a discussion on whether to legalize marijuana, especially for medical purposes", what a weasel ass statement that is. "Have a discussion" amounts to "let me see who donates the most to the campaign". I disagree with Mitch on the issue but I'll credit him for saying what he thinks outright. |

Well that's the problem, voting for two evils is still evil is all I'm saying. If the media would cover the candidate as half as much as the other two he'd most likely get low 20's. You have over 100,000 voters registered to something other then R or D. Using those numbers there is more then enough chance for him to get 10-12%.

Marijuana in KY isn't going to be decided at the Federal level. It will be decided at the State level, just like hemp, and just like in the other states that already have it in some shape or form. Who supports or doesn't support it in this race is a moot red herring. |

Except at any time the feds can come down.
Weed is a Schedule 1 drug at the federal level, the only thing keeping the feds from dropping the hammer is that the White House doesn't care about dope that much. Given a different President (PLEASE! ANY OTHER PRESIDENT THAN THE ONE WE HAVE! ) the weed shops and doctors that are legal in some of the States will get busted by the Feds. Things like Operation Chokepoint are affecting marijuana sellers. Not as badly as firearms businesses but they're on the same list. Finally, a Senator has influence in his home State. He cannot vote on or introduce State law but he can make some phone calls. |

Any significant percentage of voters is influence. You are right, 10% of the votes won't get you a Libertarian (big-L, party member) in office. Even 5% in the polls will get you a libertarian (small-L) leaning person like Rand Paul. A few percentage points sends a message that enough voters are pissed off enough to vote for something different. It might be a strong philosophical vote, it might be because you can't vote for "None of The Above", but someone went to the effort to say not the Democrat and not the Republican. Its also entirely possible in Kentucky to have unopposed local or state level elections. Given a choice between a Democrat and a Libertarian for Judge Executive would you consider voting Libertarian or still vote Democrat out of habit and spite? Quoted:

OK then show me one specific case where a 3rd party candidate who achieved 10-15% of the vote had a significant impact on the following election, current policy or anything else of relevance? Ross Perot's got 19% of the vote in the '92 Presidential election. Other then getting Clinton elected, what did that "influence" accomplish? Has another Independent candidate run since? Ralph Nader only got 2.74% of the votes in the 2000 Presidential election which includes 97,421 votes in Florida. "Exit polls reported that 25% of Nader voters would have voted for Bush, 38% would have voted for Gore and the rest would not have voted at all. That would have been 13% (12,665 votes) advantage for Gore over Bush." So in other words, Nader did lose Gore the election but other then that, what good did any of those votes do? Have you heard of any other "Green Party" candidates? You can day dream about how voting for a 3rd party candidate is "sending a strong message" but in the end, that's just wishful thinking. The only real message or influence comes from the person who wins. Nobody cares who came in second or third. Quoted:

Fucking Grimes.... I swear. Probably all of the candidates. I follow Grimes and McConnell on Facebook just to see what they're saying. "Like" is the wrong word for it.
Two of Grimes' Facebook posts stuck in my craw today. One asserting that Mitch has no plan for the bridges in NKY and no plan for drugs, another asserting "Rich McConnell". Neither of these cites or links to Grimes' position or plan on these issues. This pisses me off to no end from ANY candidate. Yu cannot tell me "My opponent has no plan." and expect me to vote for you. You gotta tell me "My opponent has no plan, my plan is X" or "My opponent does X badly, I will not do that and here is why and *HOW*". It frustrates me to no end that I have to really dig and work to get a candidate to articulate their position or plan. |

I used to think that anyone NOT voting third party were actually the ones who were throwing their vote away.
But with so much at stake; the War on Coal, Second Amendment violations, etc. I'll have to vote straight Republican this time around I used to believe, especially after Ross Perot's impressive popular vote (19%) and the way he actually changed politics at the time, people finally were waking up and a strong third party was becoming a force to be recogned with. Since then, alas, a strong third party never materialized. So now I have to face reality. Thanks for the link Hunter660.
I think Mitch landed some good points to a less than friendly interviewer. The global warming and gay marriage questions were meant to catch Mitch out with a hard no. The questions were meant to hurt him. I also think Mitch did a good job demonstrating his skills by calling in unannounced, it put the host off kilter and didn't give him time to prepare any "gotchas". The host here is a bit of a jackass too, he blew off some banter about tuning in to the debates then got snippy when he asked about debating on his show. |

After Obama care I made the decision to never vote for a Democrat again. If you vote for Democrat or Independent, you are voting for gun control. WTF don't you understand about that? https://www.nrapvf.org/grades/kentucky/ - Click on the State House races, the NRA-PVF is suggesting we vote for A+ rated Democrats over B-rated Republicans. Ky hasn't had a Rpbublican controled House of Representative since 1921. The NRA feels like an Democrat who is neutral on guns is a better bet than a pro gun Republican. They hope to be able to influence that Democrat once he is elected. Its never worked very well and won't this year. Even pro gun Democrats ( and there are some) have to work under the watchful eye of Stumbo, Overly, Thompson, Adkins and Clark. Those five Democrats control the entire committee system. They decide who chairs which committee. They decide which bills get a hearing and which bills don't. As long as the Dems maintain a majority in the House, those five people will control everything. They will be reelected in their districts. The only way to get them out of control is to get a Republican majority in the House. I does us no good to elect A+ Democrats just to have them pushed to the bottom of the committee assignment lists and have pro gun bills go unheard in committees. The A+ votes never get cast. |

Not real sure about this Loophole thing. I mean if you purchase a firearm knowing it is illegal for you to do so you all ready broke the law so how is that a loophole. You have to put the responsibility on the thug and not the seller. But I will say as a seller you have to at least follow the law too and have proof from the sellar up front that they are a legal resident and legal age to purchase a firearm from you. I think that how the law is paraphrased. So IMHO there realy is no loophole. So haveing said that I am going with Grimes, know her family on her mother side and you will not find a better group of hard working Kentuckians with strong community ties anywhere. Mitch just cain't get over the 30 years, arrogant how dare you not love me I am a prince, duke, baron thing. IMHO Mich is a poster child for what is wrong in Washington same as Reid, Pelosi, McCain and so on and so forth. Time to clean them royals out.

Humorously enough her being a Lundgren is easily in my top 3 reasons I won't vote for her. |

I think that how the law is paraphrased. So IMHO there realy is no loophole. You are correct in that there is no loophole. The law says what it says and the law says that private sales do not have to go through a dealer nor a NICS check unless the sale crosses state lines. Even then its only for handguns under federal law, private interstate sales of long guns are regulated by the states. Lets apply this to other goods and services. Do you have to see proof of insurance or a drivers license before selling a car? Do you do a field sobriety check? At what point do I as a private citizen have to start doing the work of the bureaucracy and law enforcement? Do you really want a system where you have to fill out a piece of paper or hit a website to sell your private property to a neighbor or buy something from a friend? Why is the default response to deny and check instead of trusting that nearly all people are decent folks who are not criminals? A better solution to the problem is that if a person is too dangerous to vote, too dangerous to own a gun, or too dangerous to be out and about in society then that person should not be allowed in society. The 99.9% of folks buying and selling firearms should not carry the water for the 0.1% of criminals who will get guns with or without background checks. So haveing said that I am going with Grimes, know her family on her mother side and you will not find a better group of hard working Kentuckians with strong community ties anywhere. Its nice that you know Grimes family but doesn't mean much to anyone outside of your close personal circles. I had beer and talked guns with Patterson, it was fun for me but doesn't really make a good pitch to vote for the candidate. Grimes is campaigning with the Clintons who have as much of a royal dynasty as the names you listed, how do you reconcile that? |
