I love French cuisine and I've eaten at Cavey's French over the years but it's been a while.  I need a nice French restaurant for a buddy's 65th and it's getting harder and harder to find one.  Anyone in that area eat there recently (within a year maybe) that can give me your opinion?

TIA!

I ate there about a year ago. Was not as impressed as I was a couple years prior to that. It was good, but not great. Should be better for what they charge. Still the best in the area though IMO.

ETA: If you're looking for high end and done right, you might look at Millwrights in Simsbury. Not 100% French, but at that level you will find influences of course.

I've eaten both places and thought that the Italiano one was pretty good.  I shy away from carb-loaded pasta these days, however, and as much as a good Italian meal would be enjoyable I'vs sworn it off for the foreseeable future......except for the wine part, anyway.

As much as I detest the casinos in this state, I may have to hold my nose and head to one that has an outstanding French restaurant with a new chef, too.  This buddy of mine is a world traveling gormet/wine educator.  Right now they are in Venice and traveling through Italy.  I barely keep up with him on the food scene but we do our best.  We've eaten at a lot of high-end establishments throughout the Northeast and the country, in general.  Nice, linen table cloth and professional waitstaff restaurants are becoming a thing of the past because they cost a lot and current crop of kids don't have any money.

Best restaurant if you don't want to go to Boston or New York is hands down Gracie's in Providence. If you want to stay close in CT look at Millwrights.

Union League Cafe on Chapel Street in New Haven.  Was formerly Robert Henry's when there was a call for high end French cuisine.  Same family but they made it less formal although still with linens, crystal and silverware.  Excellent restaurant.

I ate at Caveys years ago and it was very good although truthfully French haute cuisine is not my first choice.

The Homestead Inn-Thomas Henkleman

Not a fan of the chef on a personal level, but he's very, very good. It's in an old house, in the Belle Haven section of Greenwich. Service has always been excellent, and the wine list is fantastic if that's your thing. Also, being an Inn, you can stay over there if you've had a few too many.
