What would be better time spent? I saw an ad for the gun show in SGN and was considering it until I saw another ad for the Sportsmans Outdoor Show at the Big E. It's been years since I've been to either.

Only time to do one show.

Never been to the Sturbridge one but I go to the BigE one regularly. I'm sure it's not as grand as it was back in the day but I enjoy it and there is a lot of booths.

I can't speak for Sturbridge. I have been to the Big E show a couple of times. There are quite a few vendors but mostly it is just fun to walk around.

Overpriced jerky, lots of Chinese junk optics, Chinese knives, T-shirts dominate the offerings. There are some guys selling quality parts, military surplus and reloading stuff. Do not expect any good deals. I found most of the stuff was priced higher than you can order online for by quite a margin.

Last time I went looking for ammo cans and came home empty handed. There was only one guy who had a couple 50 cal. cans but he wanted over $20 ea. for them.

It does make for a fun few hours if you go with a buddy.

If you want firearms, ammo and lots of vendors than you need to go to one of the PA shows.

The Oaks is decent, the one at the farm show complex in Harrisburg is huge, but it's also a 4 hr drive.

I know it is not close. One of these years I will make the drive down the night before and stay over. Then I can walk the show and come home after. Doing 8hrs. of driving in one day plus walking around the show makes for one long day.

I've done the Harrisburg show a few times in one day, and I can say I did rush through it, and that was leaving at 6am to get there.

I go almost every year- see the whole show in about 4hrs.... It's big for here but not really that big as compared to the show I went to in Vegas back in 98-99. I am only looking for certain things so I don't waste time finger fucking errthing on err table.

That's a hell of an idea.

It would be a short bus
Helmets and harnesses would be required

The Sturbridge show is the Ye Olde CT gun club if I recall they moved the show out of Hartford after Sandy Hook.
I went when it was in Hartford lots of C&R and Civil War stuff.

Hartford used to have two gun shows, both out of the Expo Center. One of was by the promtor that does Sturbridge and WEst Springfield (and most of the other regional gun shows, including the now defunct Waterbury, Windsor Locks, and Durham shows). The other, antique centric (and later antique and C&R), show was by a promoter that also hosts a show in Baltimore.

YCGG used to host shows in Wethersfield (Spring) and Windsor Locks (Fall).

I haven't been to Sturbridge in eons, but it was similar to YCGG's show and the more antique centric Hartford show, with a little more modern stuff mixed in. I was thinking about going this year, but it didn't seem worth it. If I were going to drive to a Mass show I couldn't bring much of anything (other than antiques and trinkets) home from, I would go to the larger show held in West Springfield in a couple of weeks. Most New England shows have a core group of vendors who seem to do a loop.

Negative, the ye olde show is in Middleton twice a year. Some good deals have been found. I know a moderator in here scored a preban AK for a song. I bought a MAC 10 for a great price.
