Just purchased a Russian SKS from Hoffman's..........Can you change out the stock?

Is the pistol grip Pro Mag stock illegal in CT?

Thanks,
John

You should be able to do what ever you want with it (other than turn it into a machine gun or NFA firearm) due to most if not all SKS's being preban. NFA or machine gun is separate issue from the CT AWB.

Remember preban is a firearm made before 9/13/94.

However, the general consensus is that if a preban meets the definition of an AW under the old two evil feature law then its an AW and is subject to restrictions on transport and where it can be possessed.

Just cannot have or use a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

A nice Russian would have set you back a bit.  What stock would you be replacing it with??

Tapco 10 round mags (in 20 round mag bodies pinned) work perfectly with the SKS.  FYI.

Cabinetman has this stock on one of his SKSs. I have shot it. Pretty nice and makes an old rifle feel new.

Why would you bastardize a Russian SKS?  Out of the trillions of SKSs out there, the Russian and East German SKS are the ones that are actually collectible.   My vote is that you buy a Yugo and put that one through the chop shop instead.  Save the Russkie to augment your retirement fund.

Here is my own Russkie, on the day I first picked it up.  This needs to be preserved for future generations...

Dave is right of all the SKS the Russian's are the most collectible. if you use the stock kit I posted earlier you could always return it back to collectible status.

I have been looking for a Chinese SKS with beat to shit stock to do a bull pup with.

Just learning about the SKS...........I remember when Hoffman's had crates of them for sale @ $200 per rifle.

Thanks for the info!..............I'll keep the Russian as is & play with the Yugo.

Thanks again,
John

I sold an unfired 1955 milled Russian SKS last December for $650.  I never cared for it but I must say as they go this one was damn nice.  I've seen similar Russians go for $500 to $600 here.  I probably wouldn't mess with one of those when there are so many cheaper ones out there.

I paid $599 for the Russian & $400 for the Yugo.
